Non-Exempt Job Summary:
The Wellness Coordinator manages the Fitness Center and Wellness Program, overseeing resident and member physical wellness and fitness classes. This role includes developing and implementing wellness programs, providing instruction, maintaining fitness equipment, and supervising fitness center staff, contractors, and volunteers. The Wellness Coordinator collaborates with the Life Enrichment Department and other health professionals to promote wellness across all levels of care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Development and Implementation (30%) Develop and implement programs to assess and meet the physical health and wellness needs of residents and members. Coordinate fitness programs, including aerobic classes, stretching exercises, and walking programs, ensuring proper instruction and supervision. Monitor individual progress, assess fitness needs, and develop personalized fitness plans. Fitness Center Management (20%) Manage and maintain the Fitness Center, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and functionality of equipment. Supervise instructors, contractors, and volunteers, providing support and filling in as needed. Coordinate fitness center activities and ensure proper usage of fitness equipment. Instruction and Wellness Education (15%) Lead group fitness classes as part of the regular class schedule. Research and conduct educational sessions on physical fitness and health topics (e.g., nutrition, cardiovascular health, mental health, fall prevention). Collaboration with Departments and Residents (15%) Work closely with the Life Enrichment Department to ensure wellness initiatives align with corporate policies. Collaborate with Therapy/Rehabilitation and Nursing teams to assess residents’ needs and develop appropriate fitness action plans. Coordinate with community resources and area colleges for wellness programming and life enrichment initiatives. Compliance and Training (10%) Follow infection control guidelines and maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations. Attend meetings, complete in-services, and participate in mandatory training. Provide exceptional customer service by demonstrating compassion and empathy toward residents and staff. Administrative and Budget Management (5%) Assist in developing and managing the annual department budget, ensuring effective use of resources. Maintain organized, accurate, and timely records for department activities and expenditures. Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in physical education, exercise science, or equivalent required.
Certifications:
Group exercise instructor certifications (or ability to obtain) required, with multiple program certifications preferred. CPR certification (or ability to obtain) required.
Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience in developing and managing fitness programs, particularly for older adults.
Skills:
Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise staff and contractors. Ability to develop and implement fitness programs and work collaboratively across departments. Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to lead fitness programs effectively.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, stoop, stand, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to lead fitness programs for extended periods of time.
