City of Columbia – 3.6 Columbia, SC Job Details Full-time $49,720 – $63,393 a year 2 days ago Qualifications Mid-level 3 years Supervising experience Data entry Communication skills Full Job Description JOB This position plans, directs, provides oversight and supervision to the Recreation Division employees in-charge of recreation centers and neighborhood parks; assists in planning, coordinating and implementing recreational and special programs and activities for youth, adults and seniors with varying interests; and performs professional, administrative and supervisory work as required at their assigned locations. The incumbent works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
The work is considered light in nature and involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy. The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: crouching, fingering, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Work environment may involve exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, toxic/caustic chemicals, violence; and is dynamic that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists in ensuring that divisions follow and are in compliance with City and Departmental policies and procedures, standards of quality and safety, and all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations; Supervises the work of subordinate staff, to include the review of planning and assigning work schedules, maintaining work standards, and coordination of activities and events;Provides leadership and sets the tone of the facility that encourages and promotes an environment of creativity, attention to detail, friendliness, customer service and a positive staff-participant interaction; instills these important attributes to all staff;Responds to employee or patron related issues;Inspects grounds and facilities for security and safety, and takes appropriate steps to ensure the safety of all staff and citizens and the protection of City recreational property;Assists in the development of employee goals and objectives;Ensures accuracy, effectiveness and efficiency in facility operations (i.e. Rec trac, daily safety checks, forms updated and on file, staff training records updated and completed);Assists in the development of new programs and activities based on community interest;Assists in the recruitment of volunteers;Pursues public and private partnerships as necessary;Evaluates employee performance;Acts as a resource person to staff and community groups;Evaluates programs for effectiveness; makes recommendations for changes to improve programs, services and participating as appropriate;Assists in the review of proposed programs for the purpose of advertisement and promotion;Prepares and submits required reports;Oversees fees collected by staff for various programs, activities, and etc.;Accepts and improves reservations at assigned facilities;Performs timekeeping and attendance recording for the division;Tracks attendance through Rec trac;Takes appropriate steps to ensure the health and welfare of all participants that utilize City recreation facilities, enroll in recreation classes, attend special events, and take part in any activities offered by the department; Attends City, staff and community meetings and events as appropriate;Works a rotating on-call work schedule;Receives and responds to inquiries, request for assistance, concerns and complaints from program participants and general public;Performs general administrative/ clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, ordering supplies, etc.;Attends training, workshops, conferences etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills; and Performs other related duties as assigned.
