Job Description Position Summary:
The Aquatics and Sports Coordinator is responsible for the effective development, coordination, and implementation of aquatics and youth/adult sports programs at the YMCA. This role ensures a high standard of safety, engagement, and instruction across all assigned programs while fostering a culture of inclusivity, health, and community. The position supports staff development, program quality, risk management, and member satisfaction. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, kinesiology, or related field preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience in aquatics or sports programming; YMCA or nonprofit experience is a plus. Current certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding (Lifeguard Instructor or similar certifications desirable). Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Essential Functions Aquatics Responsibilities:
Support role to the Aquatics Director. Supervise and schedule lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatics support staff. Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating swim lessons, lifeguard certification courses, water fitness classes, and other aquatic programs. Ensure compliance with local, state, and YMCA safety standards and policies. Conduct regular in-service training and emergency drills. Maintain cleanliness, chemical balance, and safety of the aquatic facility in coordination with maintenance staff.
Sports Responsibilities:
Develop, schedule, and oversee youth and adult sports leagues, clinics, and enrichment programs. Recruit, train, and supervise coaches, referees, volunteers, and sports staff. Manage league operations, including scheduling, team formation, equipment needs, and communication with participants and parents. Promote skill development, sportsmanship, and YMCA core values through all sports activities.
Shared Duties:
Assist with budget planning and monitoring for both departments. Develop and maintain positive relationships with members, participants, volunteers, and community partners. Monitor program participation, evaluate success, and adjust offerings as needed. Ensure that all staff and volunteers adhere to YMCA policies and procedures. Support association-wide events and initiatives assigned.
