SENIOR CENTER ASSISTANT PART-TIME FLOATER APPLY

Purpose of Job The purpose of this classification is to provide coverage for staff, assist in the coordination and implementation of varied recreation, special events and community service programs for Knox County senior citizens at the six various senior centers. Essential Functions The Senior Center Assistant is responsible for the following essential functions: Provides coverage in the absence and assistance of senior center staff, assist in organizing and coordinating senior center programs, special events and activities. Assist front desk operations (answering phones, greeting visitors, responding to emails, etc.) Assist in preparation of reports, correspondence and monitor registration and program attendance. Coordinate volunteers assisting at the senior center. Set up/break down activity rooms in preparation for programs. Assist with creating fliers, brochures, and other material for advertising of programs and creating a friendly environment. Assist department staff with senior walking group Additional Job Functions Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office Travel to various senior center and other department locations across all of Knox County Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours. Perform other duties as required Minimum Training & Qualifications High School diploma or GED required: Associates degree preferred Prefer one-year related experience in recreational administration, customer service, or related field Must possess and maintain a valid TN driver’s license. Must have reliable transportation and carry appropriate insurance coverage on personal automobile Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position Specialized Knowledge N/A Competencies Good communicator and active listener Good customer service and organizational skills Knowledgeable in use of PCs, tablets, smartphones and other electronic devices Knowledgeable in use of Microsoft Office suite of products Ability to focus and demonstrate great attention to detail. Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to engage in occasional moderate physical activity. Ability to lift up 50lbs.
