Child Nutrition Program Assistant Manager
QUALIFICATIONS
: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in food service operation and management.

: Child Nutrition Program Manager; Child Nutrition Program Director; Principal
JOB GOAL
: To assist in the preparation of meals for students and staff that are nutritious, tasty, clean, attractive and appropriate for a quality educational program. To train in order to develop management skills appropriate to become a Child Nutrition Program Manager.
Nature of Work:
A Child Nutrition Program Assistant Manager should assist the Child Nutrition Program Manager and assume the responsibilities of the program in the absence of the manager. The assistant manager should have the responsibility of helping to organize the activities of workers to assure the timely preparation of food in desired quantities and quality, and assisting the Child Nutrition Program Manager in various other tasks. This person should be willing to assume the position of manager.
Types of Work Performed:
Assists in preparation and service of food according to the written menu of the day. Serve in rotation or assist in preparing steam table for serving food. Assists in supplying the serving line. Assists Child Nutrition Program Manager in assuring the smooth functioning activities during the meal, filling in where necessary. Assists manager in taking inventories, making reports, ordering food and supplies. Operates all kitchen equipment and is knowledgeable of HACCP regulations regarding sanitation of equipment. Notifies manager when food and supplies need replenishing. Assists in general clean-up of kitchen. Assists in storage of commodities and other food and supplies. Performs related work as required. In the absence of the manager, assumes the managers responsibilities. Attends in-service meetings and other required meetings Any other assigned duties or responsibilities.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods, sanitation measures and equipment used in the large scale preparation of food. Knowledge of the proper storage of food and supplies. Working knowledge of HACCP procedures, HACCP charts and temperatures as required by USDA. Ability to organize and supervise the work of others. Ability to cooperate with co-workers and to deal effectively with students, teachers, school officials and parents. Ability to prepare appetizing foods. Ability to read, write and follow instructions. Skill in the use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils. Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding USDA meal pattern requirements. Knowledge of the standards of institutional food preparation, portion control and serving procedures. Skill in use of computer.
Necessary Special Requirement:
Possession of a valid skin test or x-ray as required by the State Health Department.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
: 187 day contract – 7 hours per day; salary as established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION
: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on appraisal of support personnel.
