Head Chef / Manager
MYSTIC MARKET
Mystic, CT 06355 Join Our Team at Mystic Market! We’re seeking a passionate and experienced Chef/Manager to lead the daily operations of our vibrant gourmet marketplace. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is excited to take full ownership of culinary, retail, and service operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Hire, train, schedule, and develop both front-of-house and back-of-house staff (team of 5-10). Maintain high standards of food quality, customer service, cleanliness, and presentation. Lead daily kitchen and retail operations while maintaining a strong presence on the floor. Manage labor and retail budgets and ensure accountability for financial performance. Forecast retail needs and manage product ordering, inventory, and vendor relationships. Oversee equipment maintenance and ensure strict safety and sanitation compliance. Conduct performance reviews, issue disciplinary actions, and make staffing recommendations. Review and ensure accurate catering production and delivery operations. Cross-train team members to maintain seamless service during staff absences. Perform cash handling audits, payroll/time sheet reviews, and uphold security protocols. Interact professionally with guests, vendors, and team members to promote a positive, service-oriented environment. Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in a chef leadership or kitchen management role. Strong culinary background with exceptional organizational and time management skills. Ability to lead and motivate a team while maintaining a high standard of excellence. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Understanding of food cost controls, labor management, and retail operations. Commitment to upholding sanitation and safety regulations. Hands-on, solutions-focused mindset and willingness to step in wherever needed.
