JOB SUMMARY
Assist with management, oversight, budgeting, and scheduling of Universal Creative patent program. Duties include interfacing with in-house counsel and outside patent counsel to coordinate filing and/or conflict resolution related to patent activities. Coordinate correspondence to and from U.S. patent office with outside patent counsel.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Review patent application drafts and other work product from outside patent counsel. Verify potential of patentable ideas, conduct prior art searches, and provide search results to outside patent counsel. Review rejections from US Patent Office and recommend patent claim amendments and/or arguments against rejections. Meet regularly with engineering and design groups to provide patent training, and to identify and harvest potentially patentable inventions. Assist with management of budget, invoices, maintenance fees and schedule for Universal patents. Monitor possible infringement of Universal patents. Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
EDUCATION
Engineering degree required (Mechanical or Electrical preferred; others considered). J.D. preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum two (2) years patent prosecution experience either in a law firm or in-house; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience at US Patent and Trademark Office will be considered. Engineering experience preferred. US Patent Bar required. Member of a state bar preferred.
