Role:
Community Roots Market is seeking a mission-driven Store Manager to lead day-to-day operations and inspire a passionate team in our community-focused organic market. This leadership role requires a hands-on approach, blending strategic thinking with daily store responsibilities. As Store Manager, you will be the heartbeat of our operations — ensuring smooth workflow, exceptional customer service, and alignment with our mission of sustainability and local food advocacy.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise a small team, fostering a collaborative and customer-first culture
Oversee store operations, including opening/closing procedures, daily cash handling, scheduling, and staff training
Manage ordering, vendor relationships, and inventory with a focus on local, organic, and sustainable products
Maintain merchandising standards and ensure a welcoming, organized, and educational shopping environment
Monitor sales, manage budgets, and track performance metrics
Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and uphold sustainability goals (e.g., zero single-use plastics)
Act as the primary liaison between owners, staff, vendors, and the community
Send weekly newsletters and updates to our clients
Organize, advertise, and supervise community events such as wine tastings, monthly book club, and more
Ideal Candidate:
Proven experience in retail management or a leadership role (grocery or natural foods manager or farm or restaurant manager experience preferred )
Strong organizational and communication skills
A deep appreciation for local agriculture, sustainable food systems, and community outreach
Tech-savvy with proficiency in POS and inventory systems
Proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable wearing many hats in a small business environment
