With overnight accommodations in the main building, which dates back to 1793, and three cottages across 2+ acres of waterfront land, the inn offers guests an inviting retreat. Our on-site restaurant is an integral part of the experience, offering breakfast for inn guests; dinner and drinks to the public five nights a week; and a potential lunch or brunch service. This is the only restaurant and bar in the village of Deer Isle, and it plays an important role in the island s culture and identity. Overnight guests have enjoyed the hospitality of this storied place since it first operated as a boarding house in the 1890s. We are starting the inn s next chapter with values centered on community, sustainability, and creativity that influence every aspect of our decision making. Role Mission To ensure seamless, personal, and consistently high-quality service to guests throughout the season. And to hire, mentor, and grow an exceptional front of house team. Role Summary The Front of House Manager is responsible for overseeing the front-of-house operations of our on-site dining room and tavern, as well as overseeing service for events and private gatherings. This role combines a passion for exceptional service, creative problem solving, and strong organizational skills to ensure memorable dining and event experiences for our guests. The Front of House Manager works closely with the Innkeeper, House Manager, Kitchen Manager, Culinary Liaison and other team members to maintain a high quality bar and uphold Pilgrim s Inn s reputation for warm, personalized service. Pilgrim s Inn Front of House Manager Key Responsibilities Front of House Operations Lead daily FOH operations, including supervising hosts, servers, and servers assistants, ensuring excellent service and maintaining a respectful, fun, and collaborative work environment. Hire and train Front of House staff to ensure efficient onboarding and consistent operations. Oversee all Front of House scheduling. Gather team availability, set schedules weeks in advance, and ensure the team has scheduling information in order to be at work, on time, and in the proper roles every shift. Ensure team is taking proper breaks and not logging overtime hours. Monitor guest satisfaction. Take ownership when issues arise, address concerns promptly, course correct, and implement longer-term solutions to avoid repeating the same issues. Monitor reservations, confirm reservations, and manage incoming phone and email inquiries from guests related to the Inn s F&B offerings. Oversee our reservations platform, Tock, and take responsibility for communicating with guest in quiries in a timely manner via the email address. Manage inventory, ordering, and FOH supplies to ensure seamless operations. Oversee laundry service for FOH needs, in collaboration with the House Manager. Collaborate with the culinary team to ensure smooth communication and execution of menu offerings. Ensure FOH staff is well-informed on menus, ingredients, and local vendors so as to communicate proficiently and passionately with guests. Work with Kitchen team to finalize, write, and print menus on a regular basis. Update POS system with menu items as needed Ensure guest-facing and service spaces are clean, safe, organized, and presentable. Work with House Manager to ensure Housekeeping team keeps bathrooms and guest-facing spaces spotless for all services. Administrative & Financial Oversight Work with Innkeeper, Culinary Liaison, and Bar Manager to develop budgets, set revenue targets, and monitor financial performance across F&B touchpoints. Track and analyze sales, labor costs, and profitability metrics, implementing strategies to optimize revenue and efficiency. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and liquor license regulations. Team Leadership & Development Create a positive, collaborative work environment that draws top talent because of our reputation for being a great place to work. Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support professional growth for staff. Lead pre-shift meetings in collaboration with Kitchen team, with a focus on education and consistency. Ensure the team s knowledge and skills are up to date. Find and implement ways for Front of House team to learn about local producers and purveyors who partner with us. Support Restaurant Operations Proactively step in as a host, server, or assistant during busy periods, as needed. Collaborate across the food and beverage team to ensure seamless coordination between the Tavern, Dining Room, and Kitchen. Oversee daily accounting for the Front of House team, including tracking hours worked, sales, and tips earned. Oversee payroll for Front of House team, ensuring hours worked and tip earned are accurate and processing correctly on a bi-weekly basis. Oversee the tip pool, including gathering data on tips earned, inputting data into spreadsheet, printing daily tip pool, and putting it in our binder for the team. Qualifications Proven experience in restaurant management, preferably in a boutique hotel, inn, or other independent hospitality setting. Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and inspire. High emotional intelligence and low drama are key to success in this role. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You must be passionate about the guest experience. Highly organized and detail-oriented. An ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at the same time. Proficiency in POS systems and basic computer hardware and software (ie. Google Docs). Experience with restaurant financial reporting. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Knowledge of Deer Isle, Maine, or a genuine desire to immerse yourself in the local community and culture. Compensation This is a part-time role with anticipated weekly commitment amounting to 20 30 hours. Hourly wage starting at $18/hour Affordable staff housing on Deer Isle may be available at below market rates.
