Job DescriptionThe General Manager at Hotel Vela is responsiblefor the successful operation and administration of all hoteldepartments, including: Front Office, Housekeeping, Sales &Marketing, and Maintenance. The General Manager is responsible forthe overall guest experience and financial accuracy of the Hotel toinclude supervision, training, coaching, motivation, and policyimplementation. The General Manager must ensure an awareness of alldepartments throughout the Hotel; ensuring a consistent focus onproviding an exceptional experience to every guest while maximizingdepartment profitability at the same time.
Job Responsibilities Work collaboratively with managers and supervisors to meet orexceed the hotel’s financial budget and guest service goals. Work closely with managers and supervisors to develop them bothpersonally and professionally. Establish consistent operating procedures and ensure they arefollowed. Motivate the hotel staff to maintain a productive, positive,and safe work environment. Ensure that all employees consistentlycomply with all Fire Department Safety codes and OSHAguidelines. Responsible for the appropriate scheduling of hotel staff toensure guest needs while ensuring labor budgets are withheld. Responsible for all property based Human Resources andaccounting functions, including monthly forecasting and reporting,cash flow, and annual budget writing. Assist in the development of the annual marketing plan & budgetby developing strategies to increase occupancy and revenue. Participate in weekly revenue management and sales strategiescalls. Ensure the operations staff, supervisors, and management areproperly trained to standards and able to carry out the operationsof each function of their department. Conduct daily stand-up meetings with management/staff to ensureemployees are informed. Ensure that cleanliness and condition of each area meetsdesignated hotel standards and the appropriate inspections arecarried out on a consistent basis. Ensure that an accurate inventory is completed for housekeepingand front office amenities and supplies, standard guest room items,linen, food and beverage items, etc. Ensure that all equipment within the guest rooms and alloperational departments within the hotel are functioning properlyand are part of an effective preventative maintenance program. Keep abreast of the competition, local events, and hospitalitytrends. Maintain a flexible schedule that can work any shift and assistwith staff coverage in the instance of call-offs. Review status of assignments and any follow-up action withmanager and/or on-coming shift supervisor.
Job Qualifications College degree and five years of related experience in hoteloperations. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Significant attention to detail. Complete understanding of profitability and budgetgoals.
