Includes evenings, weekends, and holidays About the Role Durham Distillery is seeking a dynamic and service-driven Front of House Assistant Manager to lead guest experiences in our tasting room and cocktail bar. This role is pivotal in driving promotional success, enhancing customer engagement, and ensuring premium hospitality. You will be instrumental in shaping memorable guest experiences while supporting strategic promotional initiatives and maintaining operational excellence. Primary Responsibilities1. Drive Consumer Traffic & Promotions
- Collaborate with the Director of Hospitality & Culture on creative monthly promotions that boost foot traffic and customer engagement.
- Execute limited-time offers (LTOs), VIP tastings, and unique on-site events that drive brand loyalty and sales.
- Coordinate with the marketing team to ensure alignment on messaging, signage, and event execution.
- Use customer feedback and analytics to refine promotions and identify new opportunities for in-house activations. 2. Elevate Guest Experience
- Lead staff in delivering an elevated, personalized guest experience through effective service protocols, staff training, and hands-on leadership.
- Oversee daily service operations with attention to guest flow, ambiance, and customer satisfaction.
- Implement QR-based and in-person feedback systems to monitor guest sentiment and apply insights to improve service.
- Train team members to confidently share product knowledge and make tailored cocktail recommendations.
- Design and execute upselling strategies that enhance guest value while maintaining authenticity and approachability. 3. Operational Support & Floor Leadership
- Act as the “manager on duty” during service, guiding prep, cleanliness, team briefings, and pace of service.
- Manage private event and tour logistics in coordination with the Director of Hospitality & Culture.
- Help maintain inventory control, working closely with back-of-house and production teams to ensure readiness.
- Evaluate and approve comps and service adjustments as needed, balancing guest experience with brand standards.
- Ensure that each guest visit ends with a personal and gracious farewell, leaving a lasting impression of hospitality. Train all front-of-house (FOH) staff on Durham Distillery’s history, core product knowledge, and steps of service to ensure consistency and authenticity in guest interactions.
- Lead and conduct behind-the-scenes distillery tours for guests, delivering engaging and educational experiences that highlight our brand story and production process. 4. Foster Internal Collaboration
- Support cross-functional communication between front-of-house, back-of-house, and marketing to ensure seamless operations and storytelling.
- Participate in team-building efforts that promote a strong internal culture and shared ownership of the guest experience.
- Contribute to maintaining and evolving hospitality best practices that reflect Durham Distillery’s premium positioning. Qualifications & Skills
- At least 7 years of experience in Hospitality, spirits, or retail environments.
- Strong understanding of customer experience tools and data-driven service improvements.
- Proven track record in implementing successful promotional and upselling initiatives.
- Excellent communication and training skills; confidence in leading guest interactions.
- Passion for craft spirits, hospitality, and guest-centric service delivery.
- Ability to lead by example and contribute to a collaborative team culture.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Tech proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Professional demeanor and strict adherence to sobriety during working hours.
