ABOUTTHEPIEDMONTCLUB
ThePiedmontClub,establishedin1941,isoneoftheSoutheast’spremierprivateclubs,knownforitsexceptionalsocialanddiningexperiences.
OriginallyfoundedbyWalterMontgomerytoserveSpartanburg’sgrowingbusinesscommunityduringthetextileboom,theClubhasevolvedwhilepreservingitstraditionofoutstandingservice.
TheClubishousedinthehistoricMontgomeryHouse,aQueenAnne-stylehomebuiltin1893.DesignedbyWalterScottMontgomeryforhisbrotherVictor,thehomefeaturestowers,dormers,baywindows,andintricatewoodenornamentation.
Moved200yardsin1939or1940tomakeroomfortheSpringdaleDairyDepot,thehousewasrestoredtoitsoriginalarchitecturalstylein2007. Initially,ThePiedmontClubprovidedbothlodginganddiningservices,butbythe1950s,ithadshiftedfocussolelytodining.
Theoriginaldiningarea,nowtheKateBarryRoom,remainsakeypartoftheClub.
Overtheyears,expansionsinthe1970sand2001enhanceditsfacilitiestoaccommodateagrowingmembership. TheClubhasupheldhighmembershipstandardswhileembracingchange.
Membershipisbyinvitationonlyandmustbeendorsedbytwomembers.
ANon-DiscriminationArticlewasaddedtotheBy-Lawsin1988,leadingtothefirstfemaleandminoritymembersjoiningin1989.In2010,theClubelecteditsfirstfemaleBoardmemberandnowin2025theClubhaselecteditsfirstfemalePresident. Expandingbeyonditsbusiness-orientedorigins,ThePiedmontClubnowhostssocialeventssuchasfamilynightsandrelaxedattiredining.
ItplaysakeyroleintheSpartanburgcommunity,servingasavenueforfundraisers,businessmeetings,andpoliticalgatherings.

PhaseI,completedin2008,restoredroomsintheMontgomeryHouse.
In2009,PhaseIImodificationstransformedtheFairforestRoomintotheGeneralDanielMorganRoom,creatingavibrantbarspacetobettersuitmembers’diningpreferences.
ApaintingofGeneralDanielMorgan,commissionedin1968byartistAliciaRhett,nowresidesintheroom. Mostrecently,theClubunderwentmajorfacilityimprovementsincludingstraighteningoutahallwayandenclosinganoutdoorporchtocreatemoreeventspace. ThePiedmontCluboffersflexibleeventspacesforgatheringsrangingfromsmallmeetingstoreceptionsforupto500guests.

CANDIDATEQUALIFICATIONS
Aminimumof5-7yearsofprogressiveleadership/managementexperienceinaprivate,member-ownedclubenvironmentispreferred.
Non-currentGM’swillbeconsidered,butonlywithverificationofworkexperienceswithaqualityclubandmentor.
Non-clubindustrycandidatesmustbeabletoportraytheirknowledgeandstrengthsinworkingwithwell-intendedandactivevolunteersinboardandcommitteerolesinanon-profitdynamic.
Preferably,experienceinaSoutherncluband/orwithpersonalconnectivitytotheSouth.
