PositionSummarySupervises technical and non-technical laboratory personnelas well as daily operations in assigned areas/shifts to achieveorganization and regulatory requirements. Supervises personnel,processes, service levels, regulatory compliance, and servicelevels in assigned areas. Functional areas of responsibility mayinclude but are not limited to technical discipline areas in whichdepartment is licenses, specimen collection, specimen processingand specimen referral testing. Performs technical and non-technicalduties in assigned areas of responsibility as required.

Responsiblefor scheduling, productivity, and inventory for assignedshift(s).Assumes responsibility for adequate staffing. Adjustsschedules and workstations assignments as needed.

Orients newemployees, conduct in-services, ensure competency testing andannual safety training. Ensures that team members adhere toestablished policies and procedures.

Ensures maintenance ofaccreditation and licensing requirements for laboratory. AssistsManager / Director with answering / complying to accreditationstandards.

Implements the laboratory safety program. Ensures thatthe laboratory follows all hospital safety goals.

Performs andinterprets diagnostic laboratory procedures.

Reviews quality controlprograms, preventative maintenance, and patient records.

Interactswith other departments, physicians, and team members to producequality laboratory results for quality patient care.

Remains currentin technical skills and knowledge.

Monitors and evaluates theactivities and attendance of team members and provides management,coaching, guidance, delegation opportunities, and on-the-jobtraining and re-training as necessary to ensure operationalefficiency and adherence to policies and procedures; fosters opencommunication by offering, encouraging, and accepting suggestionsfrom team members regarding department operations.

Providestechnical supervisory coverage of the laboratory for equipment orreagent problems. Establishes and maintains all requiredrecords.

Advises the manager/director of issues affecting thelaboratory.

Demonstrates proper decision making, effectivelyestablish priorities for ongoing lab functions.

Compiles statisticsfor the laboratory performance improvement program. Meetsdeadlines.

Ensures that critical functions of the department areperformed and documented including corrective action asneeded.

Oversees the quality control of the laboratory. Ensures thatrecords are reviewed, and corrective action isdocumented.

Unacceptable results are investigated, and correctiveaction documented.

Implements the laboratory safety program. Ensuresthat the laboratory follows all hospital safety goals.

Documentseducation, drills, and safety rounds.

Ensures that team members aretrained in computer downtime procedure, disaster preparedness, andsafe work practices. Works with management to improve process foundto be inadequate.

Willing to perform bench work when the need arisesto improve workflow and efficiency of the department.

Motivatesbehavior, serves as a leader and mentor to others. Takes aleadership role to make changes in process happen. Demonstrates theability to lead team members through example. Maintains effectiverapport with others and gains their cooperation toward achievinggoals.

Concurrently monitors employee and departmental performanceto ensure adherence to policies and procedures, timelines, andregulatory requirements.

Develops, implements, and monitors newpolicies and procedures as needed.

Ensures that department teammembers attend all mandatory JMC/departmental in-services andmeetings.

Concurrently monitors resource utilization, includingpayroll, supplies and expenses, client volume and revenue variationreports, outpatient volume reports, mileage, and expense logs;participates in MOR. Takes immediate action, as needed, to rectifyproblems.

Completes and conducts performance evaluations for allteam members under direct supervision after three months ofemployment and annually, in a timely manner.

May be required toperform phlebotomy and cross train to other job duties and orientnew team members.
