Job Summary:
The Back of House Supervisor oversees kitchen operations at the Bayside Café, ensuring food preparation meets quality standards, kitchen staff ad to safety and sanitation protocols, and operations run efficiently during service. This hands-on leadership role includes supporting kitchen staff, monitoring food prep and storage, and ensuring the kitchen is clean,anized, and ready for service in an outdoor waterfront setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and support line cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers, and other BOH staff. Maintain cleanliness,anization, and sanitation of all kitchen areas in accordance with local health codes. Ensure timely food preparation and quality control during service periods. Monitor kitchen inventory, assist with ordering, and reduce waste by maintaining proper stock rotation. Train new kitchen team members and assist in cross-training staff as needed. Coordinate with the Front of House (FOH) team to ensure smooth service operations. Assist in preparing food as needed, especially during peak hours or staff shortages. Uphold safety protocols, including proper food handling, temperature control, and equipment use. Lead by example in maintaining a professional, respectful, and team-oriented environment. Communicate clearly and promptly with management regarding staffing, supply needs, or equipment issues.
Qualifications:
2+ years of kitchen experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role preferred. Strong leadership skills and the ability to train and motivate staff. Excellentanizational and time management skills. Kledge of food safety standards and kitchen best practices. Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. ServSafe Certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire. Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and a flexible schedule.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work in an outdoor kitchen environment in varying weather conditions (heat, humidity, rain, etc.). Must be able to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods (up to 10 hours). Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds frequently. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, and climb stairs as needed. Must be able to work in hot, humid, and noisy kitchen conditions.
Work Environment:
Bayside Café is a fast-paced, open-air waterfront venue with high volume during peak hours. The role requires consistent exposure to outdoor elements and fluctuating temperatures. Strong collaboration is needed with both BOH and FOH teams to ensure successful service and guest satisfaction. EOE M/D/F/V
