PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Hiring Salary:

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
At the direction of the Flow Control Center Supervisor, the Shift Supervisor monitors and coordinates the daily activities & operations of Aurora Water’s Flow Control Center. The Flow Control Center is responsible for the monitoring and operation of Aurora’s water system including transmission and distribution, source water, and reuse treatment and pumping. Flow Control Center duties also include preparing consumption forecasts, coordinating Treatment Plant production, and after-hours calls and dispatching.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates daily operations and activities to ensure proper operation and monitoring of the Flow Control Center, Aurora’s water systems, Treatment Plant rates, remote facilities, and after-hour emergency dispatch operations. Performs coordination of large-scale system events such as Treatment Plant outages, remote station outages, planned equipment outages, or other emergency events as needed. Participates in design, planning, and organizing for capital improvement projects as assigned by the Flow Control Center Supervisor. Assists the Flow Control Center Supervisor with the recommendations regarding the selecting, hiring, career progression, promotion, and disciplinary actions for assigned Flow Control Center staff. Evaluates performance and administers performance evaluations for assigned Flow Control Center staff. Assists with the FCC Supervisor with process control, SCADA, and capital improvement projects including design and operational review, progress meetings, and/or project update meetings. Resolves problems and conflicts arising during daily operations Assists with developing and implements standard operating procedures (SOPs). Ensure that all shifts are properly staffed, including but not necessarily requiring, the Shift Supervisor to cover shifts. Assists the Flow Control Center Supervisor in making recommendations regarding changes in operational strategy. Reports and investigates accidents. Maintain all reports and records that the Flow Control Center produces, supplying that data to the necessary parties. Creation of custom reports and data requests. Maintains and enforces safety regulations and procedures. Assists in preparing and recommending equipment specifications. Prepares department activity reports. Maintains records on and makes recommendations concerning materials, staffing, and equipment used. Ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
Associate’s Degree in a directly related field.
Experience:
At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in flow control center activities and /or operation and maintenance of water distribution/wastewater collection system process control.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of a dispatch center. Skill in the use of personal computers including word processing and spreadsheet software applications. Ability to handle multiple complex situations. Experience related to the operation and maintenance of a water distribution system.
Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of the operations of water utility systems, SCADA control, consumption forecasting principles, water and wastewater treatment plant concepts. Comprehensive water theory and principles (hydraulics, gradients, etc.), distribution system principles, operations, control processes and maintenance requirements. Comprehensive knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions peculiar to water/wastewater system operation, Advanced knowledge of personal computers including spreadsheet, word processing and other job-related software applications.

Knowledge of computer and software applications including spreadsheet, word processing and other job-related software applications. Ability to prepare and create Logs & reports.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Colorado Class 4 Distribution Certificate Colorado Class 1 Collection Certificate Colorado Class D Water Treatment Certificate Colorado Class D Wastewater Treatment Certificate Colorado Driver’s License with a good driving record.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:
When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
Continuous sedentary work with infrequent light work that involves moving no more than 20 pounds at a time Clear vision to read and interpret reports, design specifications, and other written documents. Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens. Hand/eye coordination for operation of computer, phones, and radios. Foot/eye for operation of motor vehicle. Hearing and listening for instructions and warning signals.
Work Environment:
Continuous work in a clean comfortable environment, with some exposure to a water treatment facility. Works shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, standby, and/or callback duty.
Equipment Used:
Continuous operation of communication equipment & computer and infrequent operations of motor vehicles This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
