Description
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising the Resident Assistant scheduled on evening/ weekend shifts for the Housing Division’s programs, ensuring that the programs have coverage, assisting with on-boarding and training new employees, and overseeing safe and smooth program operations on the evening and weekends. The Shift Supervisor reports to the Program Manager of the respective program for weekly supervision and assignments.
Location:
Visions of Victory, in Jamaica Plain, is a low threshold transitional living program utilizing a Housing First, harm reduction model. Visions of Victory serves individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use/opioid overdose risk and health/mental health conditions, who may also face multiple barriers to housing.
Essential Functions:
Act in accordance with Victory Programs, Inc.’s Standards of Excellence at all times, including maintaining professional ethics, boundaries and client confidentiality and working from a strength-based perspective.
Ensure that policies and procedures of the program are followed at all times. Provide support to residential housing Programs on( Evening and Weekend) shifts: handling call-outs, ensuring coverage at the programs, on-boarding and training new employees, ensuring each program is in compliance with Victory Programs’ policies and procedures, responding to emergencies, etc.
Provide weekly supervision and contribution to periodic performance reviews for all full-time/ part time residential assistants.
Leading the shift at a designated program.
Ensure staff are providing quality, empathetic customer service to all clients in the programs.
Ensure Resident Assistants are accurately completing program documentation, including: program communication logs, incident reports, memo/warnings, etc.
Oversee staff to ensure they are providing effective milieu coverage, including: creating and facilitating a therapeutic milieu, empowering clients to act in accordance with guidelines in the program; conducting rounds; answering phones and front door; monitoring clients signing in/out; distributing linen, etc.
Ensure all staff are following all policies and procedures related to maintaining a safe and appropriate residential environment. This includes ensuring that the facility is safe, clean, and in a good state of repair; that fire escape routes are free of obstacles; and reporting facility concerns in a timely fashion.
Train Resident Assistants on data collection and documentation in Electronic Health Records and verify client/program data is being inputted accurately and regularly.
Support relief staff by providing training on program-specific rules, policies and procedures.
Work collaboratively with all staff to provide individualized services to all clients.
Attend weekly supervision with the Program Manager.
Ensure staff are communicating any information specific to management, client concerns, and facility issues in a shift note or phone call to program director and other program staff, as appropriate.
Collaborate and communicate effectively and sensitively with the VPI treatment/housing team and any other individuals or agencies involved in the clients treatment.
Perform other duties or tasks that may be requested by a Supervisor or other designated personnel.
Staff must be awake for the entire shift.
Non-Essential Functions:
Support agency fundraising and development activities.
Perform any other request that may from time to time be made by the Director of Victory Housing to assist the agency’s overall management.
Transport and or provide accompaniments (using agency vehicle) of clients to housing related appointments, legal and other approved appointments as needed or assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree, or High School Diploma or equivalent and three years’ experience in a relevant field, such as mental health, substance use or homelessness. At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
Strong organizational and record keeping skills.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team.
Ability to relate to clients in an instructive, directive, firm yet compassionate manner.
Knowledge of substance use recovery process, or willingness to acquire within the first 6 months of employment.
Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multicultural settings with diverse client groups.
Strong computer skills, including the use of electronic health records, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Strong writing and communication skills.
Must be reliable.
Experience and competency in working with individuals of diverse race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex and drug cultures, age groups, religion, country of origin, disability and economic status. Knowledge of or openness to the Housing First Model, addiction/recovery, Harm Reduction Practices/Philosophy and infectious disease risk, or a willingness to acquire within the first six months of employment.
Must be CPR certified (may be obtained upon hire)
Completed TB screening (may be obtained upon hire)
Three work related professional references; at least 2 from manager or supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 25 years of age with a valid Massachusetts driver’s license with a safe driving point of 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, or 03.
Position Type:
Full-time (40 hours) Sunday – Thursday 11pm-7am. On site.
Rate:
$26.48/hr
