About the
Role:
This is a fully “hands-on” leadership role at a single-campus charter school district serving grades K‑8. The operation supports four schools, all on one property, with meals prepared out of one central kitchen and delivered to the satellite buildings throughout the day. The Director is expected to lead and actively participate in all areas of the program—from line production and food prep to inventory, compliance paperwork, and frontline staff coaching. You will manage a team of 7 food service workers and be responsible for ensuring meals are compliant with USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP) guidelines and served on schedule, at temperature, and with care. This is not a remote or purely administrative position. Our most successful Directors model service leadership by being present in the kitchen, supporting their team, and creating strong, respectful relationships with the school’s staff, students, and administration.
What You Can Expect:
You’ll start your day early—most mornings begin between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m. You’ll work with your team daily—setting expectations, coaching performance, and supporting them when challenges arise You’ll lead morning production and ensure each satellite school receives meals on time, at temperature, and in compliance with NSLP standards You’ll handle ordering, food cost tracking, receiving, and inventory control You’ll manage temperature logs, production records, and monthly reporting requirements You’ll attend client meetings, address concerns promptly, and stay solution-focused You’ll occasionally need to help cover a line or fill in for a staff member (we’re a lean crew) You’ll plan menus with both compliance and kid appeal in mind You’ll respond to health inspections, audits, and student feedback professionally #INDS
