Director of Dining Services The Jewish Community Housing Corporation of Metropolitan NJ Whippany, NJ 07981
Overview:
The Dining Services Director is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, budgeting, and physical management of the dining department’s employees and equipment in a way that the dining services of the community shall be maintained in accordance with established policies. The Dining Services Director reports to the Associate Executive Director.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a current CDM and ServSafe Certification
- Must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years dining experience in a senior living environment
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn software programs and applications as necessary for the operation of the department
- Ability to maintain resident and team member safety
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Plans, organizes, and supervises the ongoing operations of the dietary services department 2. Plans and prepares menus, including special diets 3. Notes all changes to menus, retains and files menus 4. Orders food and kitchen supplies to maintain an adequate supply of food and supplies 5. Assists in developing the dining services budget 6. Controls food and labor costs within department budget without compromising the standards of food service excellence 7. Ensures that orders are correct, checks orders against the invoices, and processes the orders in a timely manner 8. Sets and monitors daily work schedule for dining staff 9. Participates in committees as assigned, such as but not limited to: QAPI, Food Committee, Daily Stand-Up Meetings, etc. 10. Works with the Facilities Department to ensure all dining equipment is in good working condition 11. Completes staff evaluations minimally on an annual basis 12. Ensures that all assessment tools, forms, and informational records utilized by the department are accurate and updated as needed 13. Provides or arranges for in-service training for dining staff and other departments as requested 14. Ensures continuity and standardization of processes throughout the community as related to Dining Services 15. Participates as directed in community surveys and inspections 16. Assures that all dining staff receives training in applicable computer software 17. Ensures coordination of care with the dietitian as appropriate 18. Ensures that all dining services areas are maintained in a sanitary condition and infection control practices 19. Works with Community Life Coordinator on planning and preparing for special events 20. Promotes person centered care
Physical Demands of Position:
Moderate to heavy physical conditions. On feet most of the time. Involves walking, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and handling. Pushing and pulling carts and racks. Must be able to lift 35 to 50 lbs.

- Possesses the ability to make independent decisions
- Remains aware of any regulatory changes as related to the Dining department and makes departmental revisions as necessary, and communicates those changes to the Associate Executive Director and the Dining staff
- Knowledge of Assisted Living Regulations, OSHA, Food Safety, and Sanitation Regulations
- Has the ability to create a dining budget and is able to review P&L, staffing schedules, and is responsible for the overall fiscal management of the dining department
- Leadership quality to motivate and direct dining team
- Understands working with residents and shows them compassion, tolerance, and understanding
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Fosters a culture of service excellence which anticipates and responds to the needs of our customers and staff

Job Type:

$95,000.00 – $100,000.00 per year
