The Concession Shift Lead will assist in the day-to-day operations of our Elmira Corning Regional Airport concession. This position involves supervising and guiding the concessions team to ensure excellent customer service, operational efficiency, and adherence to health and safety standards. The Shift Lead is responsible for delegating tasks, troubleshooting issues, maintaining inventory, and ensuring the smooth operation of during their shift.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision and Leadership:
Lead by example by providing exceptional customer service and maintaining a positive, team-oriented work environment. Supervise and coordinate the activities of concessions staff, including cashiers, cooks, and servers, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and on time. Provide on-the-job training for new employees, and assist with ongoing staff development and performance feedback. Assist in assigning staff to specific roles based on workload and customer demand.
Customer Service:
Ensure that all guests are served in a friendly, efficient, and professional manner. Address customer complaints or concerns, ensuring timely resolution and maintaining guest satisfaction. Monitor and encourage staff to engage with guests, offering assistance or information when necessary.
Operations:
Oversee the opening and closing of concessions, ensuring that all equipment is in working order, and the area is clean and ready for service. Ensure proper food preparation, presentation, and portioning of menu items according to company standards. Monitor inventory levels throughout the shift and assist with restocking or ordering as needed to prevent shortages. Maintain a clean and organized work environment by following proper sanitation and food safety protocols.
Cash Handling and Financial Oversight:
Assist with cash handling procedures, ensuring registers are accurate, and there is no cash shortage or overage. Monitor cashiers to ensure they are following proper cash management procedures, including issuing change and processing credit card transactions. Support the Concessions Manager with daily financial reports, ensuring all transactions are logged and properly documented.
Heath, Safety, and Compliance:
Ensure that all health, safety, and food handling regulations are strictly followed by staff. Conduct routine safety checks to ensure equipment is operating correctly and staff is adhering to sanitation practices. Monitor the cleanliness of workstations ensuring that everything meets company and regulatory standards.
Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting:
Act as the first point of contact for any operational issues or emergencies that arise during the shift, addressing them quickly and effectively. Collaborate with the Concessions Manager and executive management team to address any staffing, equipment, or inventory challenges. Communicate any significant issues or concerns to management in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in hospitality or management is a plus.
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience in food service or concessions, with some experience in a leadership or supervisory role. Experience in high-volume or fast-paced environments is preferred.
Skills:
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate and direct a team of staff members. Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills. Ability to multitask, remain organized, and work efficiently under pressure. Basic math skills and experience with cash handling and point-of-sale (POS) systems. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
Certifications:
Food Handler Certification, ServSafe Certification or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced, sometimes noisy environment. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed based on flight schedules.
