A Playologist provides the best possible guest experience through the facilitation of play and learning by continuously interacting with guests in the Museum while maintaining a safe and clean environment. This is a part-time, non-exempt position requiring at least two full shifts per week plus weekend availability (at least one weekend day). This is a front facing position requiring full guest interaction. A Museum Playologist reports to the Manager of the Program Team or his/her designee.

Essential Functions:

Continuous interaction with guests to bring Museum exhibits and environments to life. 100% of working time will all be spent with the guests. Create and maintain a high level of energy and dedication to customer service with guests and staff Assist guests in emergency situations and safety issues Assist volunteers present at the Museum Assist in daily set-up and cleaning of Museum exhibits and spaces. Assist in the collection and interpretation of survey data from programs and visiting groups. Responsible for stocking exhibits with props, and notifying the Manager of the Program Team or his/her designee when stock is low. Responsible for preparing and ensuring all program materials and exhibits are ready at the beginning of each day. Deliver and/or facilitate high quality, engaging programs, demonstrations, and workshops to families, school groups and other visitors. Perform up to Five 30-Minute appearances a day in a full costume that can weigh up to 50 lbs. Act as a host for character appearances assist with dressing the costume and escorting the character to and from set. Facilitate outreach programs and events under the direction of the Manager of Program Team & Delivery Serve as a Camp assistant teacher as required (classroom management) Present a positive, professional image as an ambassador for the

Museum Non-Essential Functions:

Education/Training Must be at least 17 years old Bilingual English/Spanish/Other preferred Previous experience or desire to work with children is preferred Experience/Skills Ability to work with a variety of people Work well under time constraints, in high-paced, stressful and noisy conditions Good public speaking/program delivery skills Demonstrated experience and interest working with children and families Theater or other performance experience preferred. Required Skills/Abilities Ability to have reliable transportation to and from work Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to deliver joyful and energetic engagement with the public Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment Perform up to Five 30-Minute sets a day in a full costume that can weigh up to 50 lbs Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Ability to move self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces. Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment Employees are subject to inside and occasional outside environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes when inside or outside.
