Museum Docent Modernism Museum Shoppe 145 East 6th Ave #4, Mount Dora, FL 32757 Modernism Museum in Mount Dora, Florida, is looking for one museum docent to join our team. We are located at 145 E. 4th Avenue. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, motivated, and reliable.

DOCENT RESPONSIBILITIES

The Modernism Museum Mount Dora is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to serve as docents. Docents play a vital role in providing an engaging and educational experience for visitors. Their efforts help bring postmodernist art and design to life while ensuring the Museum operates smoothly.

Responsibilities:

• Lead guided tours, offering insightful commentary on the Museum’s collection and exhibits.
• Provide a welcoming and professional experience for all visitors.
• Conduct research and documentation to enhance tour content.
• Assist in marketing and public relations through outreach and community networking.
• Compose professional written materials, including emails, letters, and marketing content.
• Utilize social media and other platforms to promote the Museum and events.
• Assist in coordinating and managing Museum events such as workshops and special group tours.
• Represent the Museum at community events and provide presentations to civic groups.
• Ensure the safety and security of the Museum’s collection during tours.
• Assist in administrative duties and provide general operational support.
• Cleaning of the exhibit items and facilities – including vacuuming, restrooms, and occasional polishing of glass and silver.
• Open and close the Museum as scheduled.
• Operate the cash register and process admissions.
• Perform daily reports and counts on the number of admissions.

Qualifications:

• Strong public speaking skills and ability to engage diverse audiences.
• Professional demeanor with excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and familiarity with Adobe or other graphic design software is appreciated.
• Experience in customer relations, office administration, or art history is a plus.
• Ability to operate a cash register and associated software.

Schedule & Expectations:

• Part-time (Friday-Sunday)
• The Museum operates from Friday through Sunday, 10 AM – 5 PM.
• Additional hours may be requested/assigned for special guests’ tours or events.
• Docents should arrive at least 15 minutes before the Museum opens.
• Typical tours should last approximately one hour to ensure smooth visitor flow.
