Position Summary:
The Project Technician is dedicated to creating living walls, green walls, vertical gardens, and plant walls as a sustainable approach to mitigating climate change, improving air quality, and increasing biodiversity for the Auxiliary Service Association at Stony Brook University. Organize the Chazez Community Changers (C3) Program within the ASA community partnership in composting. Other responsibilities revolve around rendering design across the SBU campus.

Required Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in biowall cultivation. Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to take direction and constructive feedback from upper management Ability to work as a team and individually Detail oriented Strong visual, creative, and design skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge climate mitigation Knowledge biodiversity Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. Ability to meet acceptable background check standards. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Department Responsibilities:
Create living walls to: Reduce energy consumption Improve air quality Increase biodiversity Reduce surface temperatures Reduce noise pollution Increase property value by extending the facade’s lifespan Reduce stress and increase productivity Manage Student Volunteers Composting Provide guidance to student volunteers Ensure the efficient collection of organic waste Maintenance of the collected compost pile Supervising the volunteer work along with strategic recruitment of volunteers, Facilitate the expansion of the program through communication with varying departments and organizations on campus Microfarm Utilize Two microfarm devices were installed inside of the East Side Dining Hall to maintain and harvest microcrops. Manage the mobile app, which provides all the necessary guidance for operating these devices. Follow guidance of the Director of Jasmine at Charles B. Wang center, when harvesting, Native Garden Bed Monitor the progress of flowers planted on the Shop Red West garden bed. Supervise club activities in the Community Garden on the garden bed. Secure footage of students working on the garden bed. Draft a budget to purchase tools and supplies based on the identified needs of students. Provide feedback on the planting procedures and gardening maintenance tasks to ensure the garden bed maintains an organized appearance. Environmental Design, Policy, and Planning) program, EDP 404 Assist Dr. Donovan Finn in redesigning renderings for the Executive Director on custom projects throughout the campus Attend in-person critics/presentation sessions On-Campus Events Attend engagement activities and events on campus to spread awareness of sustainability initiatives with which the ASA is involved. Host a tabling session at designated locations on campus to promote the operation of ASA initiatives. Assist with operational and administrative tasks during major University events, such as Admitted Students Day and Grad Day. All Other Job Duties Serve as backup to Student Services Office – answer phones, greet guests, distribute paychecks, answer questions related to meal plans, and other ASA Services.
