Starts at $60 per tour What You’ll Do As a Tour Guide with Buxton Books, you’ll lead evening ghost tours based on the beloved book The Ghosts of Charleston , taking guests on a one-of-a-kind journey through Charleston’s haunted history. We believe in offering “the tours locals want to go on,” and that “the best tours leave from the bookstore”—so your role is more than just guiding, it’s storytelling at its finest. You’ll lead groups of up to 20 people through downtown Charleston, bringing historic legends and ghostly tales to life with warmth, humor, and theatrical flair. This is a self-directed, performance-based role perfect for actors, educators, history buffs, or anyone who loves connecting with an audience and has the confidence to hold the room (or in this case, the street). Scheduling is flexible, and the pay is great. Responsibilities Deliver engaging, well-paced, and accurate ghost tours that follow our established route and narrative framework Memorize and personalize a script based on The Ghosts of Charleston , adding your own flair while maintaining historical integrity Arrive prepared and on time, ensuring a polished, professional experience for guests Manage group dynamics and ensure safety throughout the tour Follow all local tour regulations, including city guidelines for group size, amplification, and designated routes Represent Buxton Books with enthusiasm, friendliness, and professionalism Provide feedback and ideas to continually improve the tour experience Who You Are A natural storyteller who loves performing for a crowd—actors and performers encouraged to apply Enthusiastic about history, especially Charleston’s rich and spooky past Comfortable working independently and managing your own schedule Dependable, self-motivated, and able to take ownership of your work Able to walk and speak for extended periods—this is a physically active, outdoor role The Details Evening availability required (most tours begin between 6:30-8:00pm) Flexible schedule—you choose which nights you’re available Tours last approximately 90 minutes Training and materials provided Tours depart from Buxton Books on
