The primary function of the Banquet Server is to provide excellent food and beverage service to guests during assigned functions. Banquet Servers are responsible for setting up, serving, and breaking down events in accordance with hotel standards and safety procedures. With the banquet captain being their point of contact and source of information.
Responsibilities include:
Setting up assigned banquet spaces according to the BEO and the 2023 Francis Marion Banquet Standards, including table settings, linens, chairs, and buffet stations. Arriving on time, in proper uniform, and checking in with the assigned Captain or Manager to receive briefing on responsibilities for the shift. Maintaining a clean and organized wait station throughout the shift, including restocking supplies and communicating any shortages to the Captain. Greet guests warmly and professionally, following service guidelines for food and beverage delivery. Serving plated meals, beverages, and buffets in a timely and courteous manner, adhering to proper portion control and presentation standards. Checking in with guests during service to ensure satisfaction and responding to any immediate requests or concerns. Assisting in the timely clearing of plates, glassware, and silverware from guest tables and event spaces. Breaking down banquet setups after the conclusion of the event, including resetting tables, stacking chairs, and returning equipment to proper storage. Helping reset rooms for upcoming events as directed by the Captain or Manager. Following all sanitation and safety guidelines, including food handling and alcohol service. Reporting any maintenance, guest issues, or safety concerns to the Captain or Manager. Supporting the Captain in maintaining a professional and efficient event flow. Completing side duties at the end of each shift, including sweeping, mopping, restocking, and organizing assigned areas. Attending pre-shift meetings and training sessions when scheduled. Requirements of the job Able to read, write and speak English Know the menu for each function served and be able to explain the major ingredients and preparation method for each item being served. Know and use “suggestive selling” techniques Physical requirements of the job Be able to stand for long periods Ability to move from place to place in the kitchen and up stairs Ability to lift, push, pull or carry up to 50lbs.
