Job Summary:
We are seeking enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and customer-focused food service professionals to join our dynamic front-of-house team. As a Waiter or Waitress at Brink’s Tavern, you will be the face of our establishment, guiding guests through our menu, ensuring a seamless dining experience, and embodying our commitment to hospitality and culinary excellence. You will play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards of service in a fast-paced, friendly, and chef-driven environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Guest Experience & Service:
Warmly greet and welcome guests upon arrival, escorting them to their tables and presenting menus. Provide detailed and accurate information about our menu, including daily specials, ingredients, preparation methods (especially for oysters and fried chicken), potential allergens, and recommended pairings. Guide guests through our beverage selection, including craft beers, wines, and spirits, offering recommendations where appropriate. Take accurate food and drink orders using our POS system, ensuring all special requests or dietary restrictions are clearly communicated to the kitchen. Serve food and beverages promptly and professionally, adhering to all service standards and presentation guidelines. Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly and courteously to all inquiries and requests throughout their dining experience. Regularly check on guest satisfaction, proactively addressing any concerns or issues to ensure a positive outcome. Process guest payments accurately, handling cash, credit cards, and gift cards, and managing the POS system efficiently. Engage with guests in a friendly and professional manner, building rapport and contributing to a memorable dining experience.
Operational Excellence:
Set up dining areas before service, ensuring tables are clean, properly arranged, and stocked with necessary condiments and utensils. Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned sections, including tables, chairs, and surrounding areas, throughout service. Clear and reset tables efficiently and promptly after guests depart. Assist with general restaurant cleanliness and organization, including sweeping, mopping, and maintaining restroom standards as needed. Replenish supplies such as napkins, silverware, and condiments as required. Collaborate effectively with kitchen staff, bartenders, hosts, and other team members to ensure smooth service flow and timely order delivery. Adhere to all food safety, hygiene, and responsible alcohol service guidelines and procedures. Attend pre-shift meetings to stay informed about daily specials, menu changes, and operational updates.
Product Knowledge & Upselling:
Develop a deep understanding of our rotating oyster selection, including provenance, flavor profiles, and ideal accompaniments. Become an expert on our fried chicken offerings, preparation, and side dishes. Continuously learn about new menu items, daily specials, and beverage selections. Confidently upsell and cross-sell menu items, beverages, and desserts, enhancing the guest experience and increasing sales.
Requirements:
Experience:
Previous experience (3+ years preferred) in a fast-paced, full-service, chef-driven, restaurant or tavern environment, ideally with experience handling raw bar items or specialty dishes.
Knowledge:
Solid understanding of food and beverage service standards. Familiarity with POS systems (experience with specific systems is a plus). Basic knowledge of wines, beers (especially craft beer), and spirits. Ability to quickly learn and articulate detailed menu information, including ingredients, preparations, and potential allergens.
Skills:
Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and active listening. Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities. Basic math skills for handling transactions and splitting checks.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously for extended periods (e.g., 6-8 hours per shift). Ability to lift and carry trays weighing up to 25-30 lbs. Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, and wipe frequently.
Availability:
Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is required.
Legal:
Must be 21+ years of age for alcohol service.
