The VP, Human Resources will serve as a member of the leadership team, responsible for all facets of HR—from planning to tactical execution. This is a hands-on, working leadership role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment and is eager to build the HR function in a startup setting. While we have many basics in place, this role will help the business evolve from a pre-launch stage to an established company.
Responsibilities Lead and Build HR Operations :
Own the design and execution of all core HR processes, including talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, total rewards, compliance, and offboarding.
Recruiting & Talent Strategy :
Partner with department leads to attract top talent and build scalable hiring practices that align with business goals.
Culture & Engagement :
Champion and evolve our company culture, with a focus on inclusion, engagement, and high performance.
People Operations :
Implement HR systems and tools that support data-driven decisions, seamless workflows, and a great employee experience.
Compensation & Benefits :
Develop competitive compensation structures and benefits programs that attract and retain top-tier talent while driving performance.
Employee Relations :
Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and managers, handling sensitive issues with discretion and empathy.
Compliance & Risk Management :
Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations; mitigate risk through smart policies and proactive training.
Requirements:
10+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years of leadership in a startup or high-growth tech environment. Proven ability to operate both strategically and tactically—you love rolling up your sleeves as much as setting long-term direction. You are more comfortable with practical solutions than theory. Deep knowledge of HR best practices across all functional areas including sales compensation design and administration. Experience scaling HR functions from early stages; experience in sports, media, or technology industries a plus. Strong business acumen and the ability to align people strategies with business priorities. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. Familiarity with HRIS and ATS systems (e.g., Paylocity, Workday, etc.) and applying a data-driven approach to people decisions.
