Job Summary:

The Vice President, People & Organization (VP P&O) is based at Bell and Howell’s (the “Company”) Durham, NC corporate office, with operations in the U.S. and Canada, and has overall responsibility for the People & Organization function reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serve as a member of the Company’s executive leadership team. To ensure the People & Organization function has a competitive advantage, it requires an individual with immense passion, strategic and tactical ability, communication proficiency, and effective organizational skills. The VP P&O is responsible for planning, designing, and executing the P&O services, programs, benefits, and HRIS/payroll activities that are aligned with business strategies. The VP P&O is also responsible for the strategic human resource planning to provide the Company with the best people talent, processes, and technology available and to position the Company as an Employer of Choice by being aware of policies, practices and trends within the industry and local market.

Job Responsibilities:

With “hands on” leadership skills, plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the P&O function and performance. Provide leadership to the P&O team and build/maintain organizational capability and effectiveness. Ensure a strong focus on internal customer satisfaction. Develop and manage the P&O budget and other P&O financial measures. Service as a strategic adviser to C-level and other senior executives on improving culture, effective people management, removing barriers to organizational performance, and fair and compliant management practices. Be an effective authority to ensure employees’ perspective is appropriately factored into executive management decision making. Participate in the development of Company’s business plans and programs as a strategic partner, particularly from the perspective of the impact on people. Translate the strategic and tactical business plans into P&O strategic and operational plans and assist with the effective execution of those plans. Drive talent programs such as performance management, onboarding, manager development, succession planning, and engagement monitoring that have a positive impact on the Company’s ability to engage and retain staff and effectively deliver on Company objectives. Develop staffing strategies and implementation plans and programs to identify talent within and outside the Company for positions of responsibility. Identify appropriate and effective external sources for candidates for all levels within the Company. Partner with finance and business leaders on workforce planning activities. Provide hands-on management of performance-based compensation programs in collaboration with the CEO. Provide oversight of benefits programs that cost-effectively support the needs of the workforce. Ensure effective performance and utilization of the Company’s Workday platform and the use of data to support decision making on talent. Develop and advocate for programs that allow the Company to embrace applicants and employees of all backgrounds and to permit the full development and performance of all employees. Ensure effective and compliant payroll processing. Establish credibility of the P&O function throughout the Company in order to be an effective executive coach, listener, and problem solver of people issues. Develop, maintain, and apply appropriate personnel policies which include but not limited employee relations, affirmative action, sexual harassment, employee complaints, external education, career development, and compliance with laws and regulations. Continuously improve P&O operations to ensure good service to employees, managers and executives.

If not UKG, willing to learn UKG to a level appropriate to support the HR team and company needs. Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. 10+ Years of experience leading P&O teams and strategies in support of growth companies, ideally in the service industry. Demonstrated experience building a cohesive team and developing direct reports. Experience supporting Canadian HR operations. A track record of building successful partnerships and effectively advising senior executives is required. Experience in assessing ever-changing business needs and leading initiatives to fulfill them. Experience with the creation and management of budgets.

Travel:

This position requires some travel in the United States and Canada.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time. Ability to type on a keyboard. Ability to hear and talk. Ability to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
