PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position oversees and performs a variety of tasks related to the processing of workers’ compensation claims, employee safety, training, and supervisor support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following, however, other duties may be assigned: Workers Compensation Receives and processes accident reports and files workers’ compensation claims in a timely manner. Evaluates accident reports to determine accuracy and completeness and to ensure adequate investigation. Establishes and maintains contact with all interested parties by displaying top-notch customer service. Adheres to the WC laws in order to recommend approval/denial of claims. Notifies the claimant, medical service providers, attorneys, and others involved in the status of claims. Calculates WC benefits and related FMLA, STD, LTD, and SLC benefits in collaboration with the Benefits Department and WC Carrier. Maintains electronic files for claims in order to document data, reserves, and payments. Educates and supports supervisors on the RCMA return-to-work (light-duty/modified duty) program. Completes and submits the WC Compensation Renewal paperwork annually. Completes and submits the WC Compensation Audit for retro adjustment annually. Safety Analyzes injury trends and takes a corrective approach with supervisors to prevent future occurrences. Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards. Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates. Prepares all letters to send out to claimants who are to be tested for the random drug testing program. Other Administrative Duties Ensures the timely processing of medical bills, WC premium invoices, and drug testing invoices. Works with the Vault Workforce Screening vendor to ensure all payments are made as scheduled for the Non-DOT and DOT drug testing.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or GED combined with a minimum of 1-3 years of experience in Workers’ Compensation. or
  • High School Diploma or GED combined with a minimum of 1-3 years of related experience in safety administration practices. or
  • High School Diploma or GED combined with a minimum of 1-3 years of experience in Human Resources.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of the Workers’ Compensation Act, city regulations, and other applicable state/federal statutes and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, body systems, and/or impairments and their disabling effects.
  • Working knowledge of office procedures and files.
  • Ability to obtain facts that ensure that claims information is complete and accurate.
  • Ability to balance casework loads and efficiently process claims.
  • Ability to evaluate all medical and time-loss claims information to make determinations regarding payment of temporary total disability benefits and medical bills.
  • Ability to use good judgment in interpreting medical facts presented by a physician and applying these facts in determining an individual’s capacity to engage in gainful occupation.
  • Ability to read, assimilate, and recall with marked proficiency facts, figures, and descriptions, and to search for and obtain information.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with co-workers, broker, carrier, and other RCMA staff.
