The opportunity:
The Employee Benefits Underwriting Consultant lies in the Group Benefits Underwriting organization. This role focuses on underwriting renewal business under 2000 lives. In this role. you will apply standard underwriting principles and procedures to evaluate, rate and negotiate price on in-force business How you will contribute: Evaluate, price, propose rate and strategy for small to mid-market Dental, Vision, Life, Voluntary Life, STD, LTD, Absence Management & Supplemental Health in-force business withinstated authority limits. Perform underwriting functions associated with manual and experience rating. Analyze information on industry, past claim history, financial conditions and other criteria. Evaluate, price and recommend proposal terms and strategy on business outside stated authority limits. Manage assigned workload to meet internal productivity and time service standards as well as field office priorities. Understand and articulate sales region-specific strategies and trends to drive sales results. Independent decision making on fundamental problems within specific rules and utilizing general underwriting guidelines. Effectively communicate decisions or additional requirements and rating results to the assigned offices. Resource for other underwriters and the field. Analyzes information on industry, demographics, and other standard criteria. Determines level of risk based on well established guidelines. Quotes appropriate rates to field agents or brokers, maintaining an individual sales office assignment. Supports the identification and development of best practices workflows and procedures. Builds effective relationships with field distribution Partners effectively within the underwriting team and across other departments Participates in special projects as business needs require. Ensures timely and accurate financial tracking. Adheres to quality, authority and documentation guidelines. What you will bring with you: Ability to work with a diverse group of people 2+ years of Group Benefits Insurance experience, preferred Proficiency with Excel Ability to make risk decisions Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to effectively negotiate/be persuasive Broad knowledge of assigned lines of business Independent decision making within underwriting rules and guidelines Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment Highly organized with ability to manage multiple tasks Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills Customer Service Orientation Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work with a diverse range of people Do you see yourself in this role even if you haven’t checked all the boxes above?
