Primary Purpose of Department The Classification and Compensation unit supports a variety of campus-wide human resources activities on position management and classification to include consultation, position design, position classification, compensation analysis, training, and administration of classification programs for the university.
The unit has responsibility for coordinating decisions for the effective design and delivery of competitive compensation program to meet university needs and serves as the university’s principal wage and hour office. Classification and Compensation provides support and direction on a variety of salary administration policies and best practices to maintain fair and equitable classification and salary decisions for the university’s workforces. The unit maintains the integrity of the State of North Carolina’s career banding program, University System EHRA classification program, as well as the Department of Labor’s prescribed Fair Labor Standards Act regulations in combination with other federal, state, and local policies and regulations.
Primary Purpose of Position The Senior Classification/Compensation Consultant will independently participate in maintaining and developing relationships throughout the university and assist with the administration of the classification and compensation program, university policies, procedures, and processes. In addition, the Senior Human Resources Consultant will support the daily resolution of a wide variety of complex department and human resources issues while performing the essential key duties of the role. This position will support the administration of SHRA and EHRA-NF position management programs.
Summary of Position Responsibilities The Senior Classification/Compensation Consultant is responsible for timely HR services to customers. Uses HRIS system tools for tracking requests and provides information, responds to questions, and resolves problems at varying levels related to compensation administration, policies, procedures, and programs for the staff classification and compensation programs. This position will support the Director of Position Management through the implementation and administration of compensation projects and initiatives. ensures maintenance, legal compliance, utilization reporting, and recommendations for process improvement. Assists with the management of day-to-day team operations, compliance with applicable standards, coordinating audits, and recommending process improvement and changes. Serves as a subject matter expert for administration and management of compensation.
The Senior Classification/Compensation Consultant supports the implementation and administration of compensation plans and strategies. Assists stakeholders with compensation-related issues, providing excellent customer service. Supports team members and leadership via communication, education, and understanding in matters related to compensation administration. Collaborates on a variety of projects, including design analysis, budgeting, and implementation of new programs.
Minimum Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Business Administration or related field and 5+ years of experience in compensation analysis related field, experience with compensation software and HRIS systems such as Banner and PeopleAdmin or equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience PHR or SPHR certification preferred
Certified Compensation Professional Designation preferred
