Description of Work The Retirement Systems Division (“RSD”) is hiring a Survivor Benefits Quality Control Analyst. This position facilitates quality control activities for processes related to determining eligibility and processing payments of death benefits for all state, local, law enforcement, and government agency employees, active and retired. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, as well as retirement.,

- You will be able to telework one day per week once fully oriented
- The QC Analyst reviews work completed by Survivor Benefits Analysts and provides guidance and interpretation of the laws governing death processing in the Retirement Systems Division.
Duties
Perform quality control activities related to any active or retired member’s death and ensure the accurate processing of any refunds and pension transfers. Apply general statutes and proper law(s) to make benefit payments. Review processing of various payment processes for accuracy and compliance (ex: Death Benefits, Return of Contributions, etc.)
Audit files to process beneficiary payments. Generate correspondence to beneficiaries or estates
Determine beneficiary eligibility based on a review of records on file. Facilitate training for new Analysts; identify training needs, provide 1:1 and group training for new and existing Analysts
Monitor electronic workflows, error rates, and turn-around times in concert with supervisor.
Perform the work of Survivor Benefits Analyst as needed
About Us:
The Retirement Systems Division administers the North Carolina Retirement Systems retirement benefits, death and disability benefits, and the North Carolina Supplemental Retirement Plans created under North Carolina state law. The Benefits Processing Section processes claims from surviving dependents of deceased plan members and short and long-term disability claims for retirement system members, along with processing requests for a refund of contributions from exited members. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following: Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply program policies and procedures and apply law to make appropriate benefit payments. Experience using software and systems to research, collect data, and analyze information. Demonstrated ability to serve as a resource for other analysts, explaining complicated processes and procedures to ensure understanding. Demonstrated ability to answer inquiries from other departments to facilitate solutions. Experience communicating complex business matters verbally and in written form
Experience using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel (or comparable technology) to perform specialized administrative tasks
