Harlem, NY Position Summary:
This is a temporary position providing coverage to the Senior Benefits Specialist on an interim basis. The Benefits Specialist will be primarily responsible for administrative processing of leave requests and processing the payment of monthly benefits
Responsibilities:
Process and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork; medical, personal, disability and FMLA Track leave time and work with employees and managers to ensure proper timekeeping Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities Create and maintain accurate leave files Communicate with employees and managers to coordinate the return to work process, including accommodation requests and leave expirations Assists with Workers’ Compensation administration Performs reconciliation of benefits-related data Review monthly benefit invoices and submit for payment Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges Partners with Payroll to ensure appropriate benefit changes are processed Additional benefits administration and other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred 2+ years of experience working in a human resources department, ideally in employee leave administration Advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications – particularly in Excel (i.e. Vlookup) Must have knowledge of federal and state leave-related regulations including FMLA, ADA, Paid Family Leave Act and HIPAA Understanding of HRIS and leave of administration systems preferred Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Ability to manage and maintain sensitive confidential information Knowledge of benefits policies and programs Good organizational skills The ability to manage multiple tasks with continued attention to detail #
