Position Summary The Assistant Vice President, Benefits will lead the strategy, design, implementation, and management of the company’s employee benefits programs, including healthcare, retirement plans, leave management, and wellbeing initiatives. This role requires a strategic, forward-thinking leader with deep expertise in benefits regulations and best practices, capable of developing innovative, competitive, and cost-effective benefit solutions that align with the organization’s talent and business objectives. This position oversees a team of benefits professionals and works cross-functionally to ensure operational excellence, compliance, and employee engagement across all benefit offerings. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive benefits strategy covering health, vision, dental, life, disability, leave management, wellbeing, and retirement plans. Manage vendor relationships and performance, including consultants, brokers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators. Analyze benefits data to identify trends, assess effectiveness, control costs, and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement. Collaborate closely with finance to manage benefits program costs while maintaining competitiveness. Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and external factors to inform and enhance internal benefits strategies. Oversee the creation and delivery of clear, effective employee communications to promote understanding and utilization of benefits programs. Serve as a subject matter expert to internal stakeholders on benefit policies, compliance, and program administration. Work with healthcare carriers and internal teams to manage domestic tier medical plan processes. Maintain and enhance the Employee Self-Service Benefit Portal and external benefit websites for each plan year. Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, maintaining accurate records and staying up-to-date on legislative changes. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field (required). 10+ years of progressive experience in human resources with a focus on employee benefits design, administration, and strategy. Proven track record in building and enhancing benefits policies and practices. Experience with mergers and acquisitions, Sarbanes-Oxley, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) (required). Strong background in vendor management, including RFP evaluations and contract negotiations. Professional certifications such as CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist) or CBP (Certified Benefits Professional) are preferred. Familiarity with Lawson HRIS systems is a plus. Skills & Competencies Demonstrated ability to design and implement innovative, impactful benefit programs aligned with organizational goals. Deep understanding of accounting and actuarial principles for financial reporting of benefit programs. Advanced proficiency in Excel and data analysis. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment. Resilient, adaptable, and solutions-oriented with a consultative leadership style. Ideal Candidate Profile Extensive experience in hospital-based healthcare is highly preferred; non-healthcare candidates will only be considered with substantial benefits and financial expertise. Strong financial background and business acumen. A strategic leader with a proven ability to drive initiatives beyond tactical execution. Able to start by July 1st.
