Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:

Works under the supervision of the Executive Director of Student Support Services and the building Adminstrator for day to day operations. The Inclusion Support Specialist for children with Autism(ISS) is an integral member of our educational and support team, dedicated to facilitating the successful inclusion and integration of children with autism into mainstream educational and social environments. The ISS will work directly with children, educators, and support staff to create effective strategies that promote the development of social, communication, and self-regulation skills. The ideal candidate will possess a compassionate demeanor, strong communication skills, and a deep understanding of autism spectrum disorder

Key Responsibilities:
Individual Support:

Provide direct support to children with autism, focusing on individualized needs and goals to aid in their successful transition to inclusive settings.

Behavioral Interventions:

Implement and monitor personalized behavior support plans, using positive behavior interventions to promote desired behaviors and decrease challenging ones.

Social Skills Development:

Facilitate social skills training as determined by the school adjustment counselor/board certified behavior analyst

Collaboration:

Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to develop effective integration strategies and share insights about the child’s progress and needs.

Monitoring Progress:

Regularly document the progress of each child

Crisis Management:

Assist in development and implement crisis intervention strategies to address and de-escalate challenging behavioral situations effectively. Skills Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and effective intervention strategies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to build rapport with children and foster positive relationships with families and staff. Proficient in developing individual support plans and documenting progress. Knowledge of behavioral management techniques and other therapeutic approaches. Certifications CPR and First Aid certification (preferred but not required). Training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or similar approaches may be preferred.

Safety-Care Trained Working Conditions:

The position may require working in both school and community settings. Some physical activity may be required, including lifting or assisting children with mobility challenges.

Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of experience working with children with autism in educational, clinical, or social settings and successful integration opportunities. Familiarity with inclusive education practices is a plus.
