The Investigator gathers information about and assists in resolving complaints of student violations of the university’s student conduct code, sexual misconduct policy, and other policies. When a complaint is filed, the Investigator will conduct a prompt, equitable, and thorough investigation in accordance with campus policies and federal and state laws to conduct investigations of complaints against university students. The Investigator acts as a neutral party in the investigation and provides a detailed, unbiased report regarding the findings of the investigation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Work with the Title IX Coordinator, and Executive Director of Student Advocacy, Well- being, and Crisis Intervention, and collaborate with law enforcement, victim services, and other resources in investigating and resolving complaints. Apply subject matter knowledge.
Review complaints of possible student misconduct, including discrimination, discriminatory harassment, and sexual misconduct – sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, relationship violence, stalking, and gender-related violence.
Conduct prompt, equitable and impartial administrative investigations into complaints including identifying and interviewing parties and gathering and assessing relevant information.
Create an investigative plan, conduct and memorialize witness interviews, make credibility assessments, prepare and present memoranda of findings and support documents, and communicate with the parties while protecting the neutrality, integrity, and privacy of the investigation.
Provide on-going updates regarding complaint and investigation status to the Title IX Coordinator and Executive Director of Student Advocacy, Well-being, and Crisis Intervention, and others responding to the issue. Work closely with them to review and synthesize allegations to determine applicable interim measures.
Consider the information gathered in the investigation with regard to relevant university policies. Present findings of fact in individual cases for review and action by the appropriate administrative director.
Actively foster and maintain a climate that is supportive of students involved in investigations and student judicial processes.
Offer students resources and referrals to manage their stress and support their wellbeing.
Ensure fairness, notification, and due process in the investigation and proceedings for all parties.
Ensure students awareness of and access to requests for possible academic, work, and student life accommodations.
Establish a climate that is respectful of difference.
Participate in cultural awareness and anti-bias training.
Cultivate relationships with campus stakeholders. Develop and maintain relationships and clear lines of communication with relevant campus offices and programs.
With the Executive Director of Student Advocacy, Well-being, and Crisis Intervention and Title IX Coordinator, implement processes consistent with University policies and federal and state laws, regulations, and compliance guidance.
Maintain knowledge of relevant state and local laws, university policies, federal Title IX policies and guidance, the Clery Act, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA), and due process protections as they apply to Student Conduct proceedings.
Identify and integrate best practices in student conduct and Title IX investigations into knowledge base and practice; participate in relevant conferences and workshops.
Assist with other related work.
Acceptable Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s Acceptable Minimum Years of Experience:
2-4 years Other minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of professional experience conducting investigations in education, employment, or law enforcement.
Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive, private information and stressful situations.
Strong skills in interviewing, investigation, conflict resolution, and problem solving.
Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations with sensitivity, and support the resolution of difficult challenges.
Skill in writing concise, logical analytical reports to convey complex issues.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and success in working with diverse constituencies, to support an inclusive campus environment.
Strong and effective interpersonal skills; the ability to listen well and demonstrate respect for individual needs.
Ability to maintain neutrality and to work as part of a campus-wide community to resolve complaints.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Working knowledge of, training, and/or experience with student conduct processes and relevant state and federal laws and guidance such as Title IX, VAWA and FERPA.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced education and training in related areas.
Professional experience conducting investigations including experience with cases of interpersonal violence and trauma informed investigations.
Experience in community standards, law enforcement, or resolving issues of discrimination/harassment is highly preferred.
Experience working with college students and knowledge of the complexities surrounding investigations in a college setting.
Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Highly motivated and self-directed in the execution of routine and special projects.
