JOB SUMMARY
Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources with the functions of the Human Resources office.
QUALIFICATIONS
: 1. Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, public or business administration or other related field, or school administration from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred. 2. Experience required will depend on educational background and experience. If a school administrator, at least three (3) years of successful teaching experience and three (3) years of administrative experience at the K-12 level required. For all others, at least five years of successful experience in human resources management or other equivalent experience required. SHRM certification preferred. 3. Knowledge of human resources and employee laws, policies, and regulations (e.g., EEOC regulations, Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, etc.). 4. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. 5. Possess and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s License. 6. Provide personal transportation or have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities. Work collaboratively with the Human Resources office team with the screening, onboarding, and processing of new employees. Coordinate employee leave (e.g., FMLA, catastrophic leave, leaves of absence). Assist with revisions to the Employee Handbook and other human resources document. Assist with recruitment events and interviews, including screening and exit interviews. Conduct new hire workshops and trainings as directed. Assist with the preparation of the salary schedule, including conducting on-going wage analysis for support positions. Assist with drafting, revising, and implementing job descriptions. Serve as a resource for administrators for employee improvement matters. Assist CFSO and payroll department with employee benefits. Assist with the budgeting of all full time and part time personnel. Assist with the administration of the sick leave bank for professional and support personnel. Assist the Assistant Superintendent with employment investigations. Review documents in response to legal subpoenas prior to production as needed. Assist in the review of all reports, contracts, and other documents submitted to the State Department of Education (e.g., NBCT, TEAMS, etc.). Assist with policy revisions as directed. Maintain timely, clear, and open communication and consultation with school professionals. Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills. Respond to phone calls/email/other communication in a timely manner. Use effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member. Use basic office software such as email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams in performance of duties. Monitor the area of supervision to ensure with compliance with the policies and guidelines of the State Board of Education, AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the local school system. Participate in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership. Possess or develop knowledge of current trends and practices in K-12 education. Demonstrate the ability to multi-task, delegate, and prioritize those tasks appropriately. Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters. Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Model and maintain high ethical standards. Respond, maintain, and/or submit required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations. Report absences and take leaves in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Perform other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
