Salary:

$28 to $30 per hour depending on experience, 37.5 hours per week (8 AM to 4 PM). Sick and personal time, health benefits, and eligible for a pension.

Position Summary:

Cromwell Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented individual to serve as our Human Resources Assistant. This position provides vital administrative and front-office support to the Human Resources Department and serves as the first point of contact for visitors to Central Office. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, demonstrate sound judgement and confidentiality, and thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administrative and HR Support Provide daily administrative support to the Director of Human Resources, including scheduling, calendar management, correspondence, and file organization.

Assist with the recruitment activities:

post job openings, scheduling interviews, and maintaining applicant tracking systems. May represent the district at job fairs, college recruitment events, and other outreach opportunities to support the recruitment of qualified teachers and staff. Support the onboarding and offboarding processes for employees, including preparing new hire paperwork such as onboarding packets and employee ID badges. Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in compliance with district policy and applicable laws. Draft letters and communication for the Director’s review and signature. Create and maintain spreadsheets, databases, and shared documents in Microsoft and Google Platforms. Communicate with employees regarding FMLA eligibility, required documentation and timelines. Track FMLA cases and maintain accurate leave records in accordance with federal regulations. Assist with reports and data collection related to recruitment, retention, and compliance. Assist with state and federal reporting related to HR Coordinate student teacher and field placements from colleges/universities. Prepare reports, presentations, and other HR-related documents as required. Uphold confidentiality of sensitive employee information at all times. May assist Payroll & HR Benefits Coordinator when needed. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources. Front Desk and Visitor Support Greet all visitors in a professional and friendly manner; serve as the first point of contact at Central Office. Screen visitors and direct them to the appropriate personnel or department. Answer incoming calls courteously, take and relay messages as needed. Maintain a neat and organized reception area. Manage the visitor log and ensure adherence to safety and security protocols.

Qualifications:

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or a related field preferred; relevant HR experience may be considered. setting preferred. Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel between district buildings if needed or attend off-site recruitment efforts. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion. Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Knowledge of basic office procedures and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a public school setting. Experience with HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) software.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally. Ability to use a computer and telephone for extended periods. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person and over the telephone.
