JOB SUMMARY

This civilian position supports the Police Department’s recruiting, marketing, and outreach efforts by developing public-facing content, coordinating community initiatives, and promoting departmental programs. The role assists in enhancing recruitment strategies and building community trust through strategic marketing, event coordination, and targeted communication.

MAJOR DUTIES

Assists in implementing recruitment campaigns and community outreach efforts under the direction of the Outreach & Recruiting Sergeant. Creates and manages content for social media, flyers, job postings, and promotional materials related to recruiting and public engagement. Assists with scheduling the Physical Agility Test (PAT) for applicants. Assists with the hiring process of applicants which includes scheduling interviews, appointments for a polygraph examination, psychological and medical screenings. Conducts background investigations. Schedules conditional offer of employment with the Chief of Police or his designee. Maintains recruiting-focused social media platforms and tracks digital engagement metrics. Assists with organizing and attending recruitment events, job fairs, school visits, and community events. Coordinates logistics for community events and public relations activities, including setup, vendor coordination, and branding support. Develops new marketing ideas and assists with branding initiatives to promote the department’s mission and values. Prepares presentations, visual displays, and multimedia content for both internal and external audiences. Engages with community groups, non-profits, and educational institutions to build positive partnerships and potential recruitment pipelines. Maintains department event calendars, outreach databases, and media contact lists. Assists with graphic design tasks as needed for recruiting or public information campaigns. Overtly displays a positive attitude that sincerely supports and encourages the betterment of the City of Acworth, the citizenry, city officials, supervision, counterparts, and subordinates. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of marketing, branding, and social media best practices. Knowledge of public relations, recruiting, and community engagement strategies. Skill in written and verbal communication. Skill in event planning and coordination. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar tools. Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with community stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Sergeant over Community Affairs assigns work in terms of general instructions. Completed work is reviewed for accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to department goals.

GUIDELINES

Work is performed in accordance with department policies, city procedures, and communication standards. Judgment and initiative are required to apply these guidelines to specific tasks.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The position requires adaptability and creativity in performing a mix of administrative, marketing, and community engagement duties. Effective performance helps support recruitment goals and strengthens the department’s public image and relationships.

CONTACTS

Frequent contact with department personnel, city staff, job applicants, vendors, community groups, educational institutions, and the general public. Contacts are to exchange information, coordinate activities, and promote departmental programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed in an office with occasional requirements to stand, walk, lift light materials, or work outdoors at events. May require evening or weekend hours for special events or recruitment activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s degree or technical training in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field preferred. One to three years of experience in marketing, community engagement, or a related field. Valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.
