TAG/TAX

TECHNICIAN PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of administrative, clerical and bookkeeping duties to assist taxpayers with tag renewal and the tag/title process. Provides information and resolves issues involving tag and title situations. Assists with special projects of the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Performs a variety of bookkeeping tasks for the office; processes tag renewals; collects fees and ad valorem taxes; processes tags and titles for out of state citizens; confirms payment of taxes on vehicle purchases; balances cash drawer. Performs clerical and secretarial functions of the office; types and processes title applications and related documents; issues handicap placards and plates; processes and issues decal renewals. Performs various administrative support tasks for special projects; involves researching and analyzing information; coordinates related tasks; maintains office records, indexes, and logs; files state reports; verifies vehicle insurance and assists with insurance related problems. Performs related clerical and secretarial duties for the office; answers general calls, provides information and assistance to callers and forwards or takes messages as appropriate; provides information to visitors; performs data entry; composes and prepares correspondence and reports; receives and files documents; maintains calendars and schedules for departmental staff; maintains master departmental calendar. Receives, sorts, processes and forwards incoming mail; prepares outgoing mail; operates postage machine. Operates basic office equipment including a computer, printer, fax machine, copier, phone system, and related machinery; utilizes basic software programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, database and other office programs.

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of two years of experience with daily office operations and performing routine bookkeeping tasks, Bilingual in Spanish desired; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Physical Ability :

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

Sensory Requirements :

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
