Job Responsibilities
With our Agency’s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.
As the Human Resources Assistant, working under the supervision of the Human Resources Manager, performs professional work in the administration of the Human Resource Office including serving as a point of contact, processing job applicants, assisting with benefits administration, providing services to employees, and maintaining HR data and completing reports.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Processes paperwork to hire selected candidates including recommendations for classification and compensation and pre-employment meetings, including ordering
Drug Screens. Process additional paperwork throughout the employment life cycle (reclassifications, reassignments, etc.) and forward appropriate paperwork to SC Department of Mental Health (SCDMH) Division of Human Resources (DHR) in a timely manner.
Sends out and tracks required annual forms and records, including annual background checks, and licensing verification. Tracks service dates for temporary staff and
notifies HR Manager and HR Specialist on pending break in service requirements.
Maintains EPMS, Planning Stage and Position Description notification spreadsheet and notifies/tracks submittals. Tracks receipt of Planning Stages and Position
Descriptions for new staff and sends them to supervisors prior to EPMS due dates. Keeps HR Manager informed of late EPMS’s, Planning stages and Position
Descriptions. Scans and submits EPMS’s to Central HR and maintains scanned copies of EPMS and Planning Stages onto shared drive.
Provides services and support to employees, such as direct deposit, W4, badges, employee relations, etc. Serves as a liaison with Human Resources at

SCDMH HR.

Assists with processing separations, including completing necessary paperwork, tracking returning of agency property, and submission to DHR. Tracks length of
employment and other retention information.
Maintains organized and complete personnel records for all employees. Assists with audits as needed.
Assists with the employee benefits program including obtaining benefits and appropriate completion of forms.
Adheres to corporate compliance policies, regulations, statutes, State, Local Laws regulating the provision of health care and demonstrates fiscal responsibility and
accountability. Completes all required training, such as MANDT/MAPS and SCEIS Modules.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and administrative experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus. Additional Comments
The selected candidate must have knowledge of principles and practices of human resource management. Ability to communicate effectively with others. Ability to analyze data and present ideas effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Will work in an office environment. Some travel will be required.
