Position Description Advertised Job Summary Provides leadership and management for the central trades departments including HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Roofing, Welding, Small Engine, and Night Crew within Facilities Services. Has responsibility for managing approximately 25 employees, a more than 3 million dollar budget, life safety and hazmat compliance, and maintenance services to the campus. Has responsibility for the overall management of the university’s building automation services. Provides oversight to the units’ safety program and compliance. Reports to the Director of Maintenance and coordinates the activities of the central shops to support the needs that cannot be met by the generalists in the area shops as well as provides advanced skilled trades work across campus and to our affiliated peers in Housing and Athletics. Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Valid driver’s license Preferred Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or construction management and 10 years ofmanagement experience directly related to the management of a large institutional building maintenance organization. Job Duties Job Duty Responsible for the effective leadership and management of approximately 30 central trades personnel, in the delivery of skilled and contracted services campus wide, encompassing over 10 million square feet of building space. Coordinates work between central and area shops to identify teams responsible and ensures proper prioritization and reaction to issues on campus. Manages HVAC, Building Automation, Electrical, Preventive Maintenance, Night Maintenance, Engine Repair, and Welding departments. Provides direction, leadership, motivation, and on-the-job training. Reviews work assignments and creates a participatory work environment. Enforces and promotes a safe work environment. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 30 Job Duty Responsible for the management, coordination, and administration of the University’s HVAC systems, building automation systems, and refrigeration compliance. Responsible for the cradle-to-grave maintenance of the University building HVAC systems and controls. This includes management and oversight of the university’s multi-million dollar building automation system contract with oversight of more than 500,000 points. Develops fault detection strategies for equipment to alarm for critical systems and manages data request and systems for accreditation.
