Reporting to the Director of Human Resources (HR), the HR Generalist at the University of Alabama System Office (UAS) serves as a key contributor to the human resources team by providing comprehensive support across all areas of HR. This role focuses on fostering a supportive work environment, ensuring compliance with System Office policies and regulations, and delivering exceptional service to employees and leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Serve as the initial HR contact to provide guidance on HR benefits, policies, procedures, and best practices
Coordinate the recruitment process, including posting job openings, screening applicants, assisting hiring managers, and proper disposition of candidates
Oversee onboarding and offboarding programs, including new employee orientation, to ensure employees have a seamless transition into and out of the organization
Provide extensive support to employees related to benefits, work with vendors to resolve benefit issues, and coordinate annual benefits enrollment
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and System Office regulations, including FLSA, FMLA, EEO, and ADA
Support employee development by coordinating training programs and workshops as well as managing the performance management platform
Maintain HR systems to ensure data accuracy and functionality; use HR systems to generate reports and metrics to support decision-making and identify trends
Contribute to HR initiatives such as wellness activities and employee engagement strategies
Participate in system-wide projects and provide HR expertise as needed
Contribute to strategic growth of the department through standards of practice, process improvement, continuing education, and employee communication strategies
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
At least three years of professional experience in human resources, preferably in a higher education or public sector environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR certification
Experience working in a university or system office environment
Familiarity with isolved or other HRIS platforms
Experience with compensation and classification
Experience with developing and managing recruitment programs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of HR benefits, principles, practices, and applicable laws/regulations
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with diverse stakeholders
Commitment to professionalism, discretion, and integrity in all interactions and responsibilities
Proficiency in HR systems and Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sedentary Work:
involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The HR Generalist will work primarily on-site at the UA System Office in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with occasional travel to other campuses or locations as required.
