Human Resources Specialist 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 270 Mohegan Avenue, New London, CT 06320 Position Information Position Title Human Resources Specialist Department Human Resources – Group Pay Type Non Exempt Appointment Type (A) Continuing Full-Time Hours Per Week 37.5 Number of weeks 52 weeks per year other – # of weeks 52 Benefits Eligible Full Benefits Geographical Regional Qualifies for Relocation Reimbursement No Work Schedule Job Description General Scope of Duties Utilizing expertise in data integrity and enterprise systems, manage, interpret, monitor, and maintain accurate records in the College’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS). Responsibilities include position control and management, job records, classification, student employment, benefit and leave setup, and payroll timelines. Support institutional reporting needs and system efficiency by creating reports, documenting procedures, and recommending process improvements. Provide project management, administrative support, and backup for benefits administration within the Human Resources office. General Duties and Responsibilities Data & System Management Administer and maintain HRIS data integrity for positions, jobs, benefits, payroll, and leave. Import/export data between HRIS and related systems to ensure data accuracy. Assist in system setup for benefits and payroll deductions. Monitor and audit HRIS feeds, reports, and census data for accuracy. Document and update all HRIS procedures and departmental workflows. Maintain HR process documentation on the shared drive. Maintain al information presented in the College’s on-line directory, Camel Web, and Camel benefits to ensure data is correct, and make changes as needed or requested on a timely basis Audit and reconcile benefits vendor census to College enrollments on a regular basis. Assist in maintaining benefit and payroll deduction information and set ups in the HRIS and Benefit Administration system in the College’s human resources information system (HRIS) and related systems. Import and export data between the benefit administration system, the various systems utilized in Human Resources, and the HRIS and ensure the integrity in those data feeds Reporting & Compliance Create, run, and distribute HR reports using Banner, WebFocus, and other tools. Support institutional reporting including IPEDS, CUPA, ERISA, ACA, and ad hoc surveys. Provide employee statistics and analysis for internal and external reporting needs. Training & Collaboration Support HRIS upgrades through documentation review, testing, and training. Coordinate data collection and reporting with the Dean of the Faculty’s Office, Finance, and Financial Aid. Train HR staff on excel, Google Workspace and other tools; collaborate with Information Services (IS) to troubleshoot system issues. Benefits & Compensation Support Reconcile benefits vendor data with College enrollments regularly. Provide backup support for benefits administration and leave management. Assist in compensation and total rewards analysis and reporting. Manage the Salary Planner tool and apply approved increases in Banner. Create and distribute salary letters to staff. Administrative & Project Support Provide general administrative and office support to HR and related committees. Process benefit invoices and maintain budget-related documentation. Create surveys and mass communications as directed. Answer phones, assist with mailings, and perform data entry as needed. Support ongoing and ad hoc projects as assigned.
Education and Skills Education:
Bachelor’s degree required, with 2-3 years of related experience.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). Experience in enterprise system environments (e.g., Banner and Google for Business). Strong analytical and data management skills. Prior experience in Higher Education Institutions.
Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication. High attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities. Ability to work collaboratively and interact with individuals across departments and levels.
Professionalism:
High integrity in handling confidential information. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Familiarity with general office equipment.
