HR Specialist – Benefits Florida State University – 4.3 Tallahassee, FL Job Details Full-time From $40,000 a year 6 hours ago Benefits On-the-job training Qualifications Writing skills Mid-level Microsoft Office High school diploma or GED Bachelor’s degree Organizational skills 2 years Full Job Description Department Office of Human Resources – Benefits Responsibilities Administration of the provisions of the University’s health insurance benefit plans, ensuring compliance with state and/or federal guidelines. Duties include counseling employees on information, issues or concerns regarding eligibility criteria, coverage, costs; completion of forms or enrollment in People First; communication and/or coordination with vendors. Manage employee enrollments and changes. Serve as a liaison between FSU, People First, and benefit vendors. Works payroll queries for insurance. Ensures employee deductions are accurate in OMNI and appropriately applied in People First and initiates correction actions. Processes premiums and refund and certifies payroll deduction authorizations of University employees. Ensures accurate premium payments. Assists the Senior HR Specialist with all insurance files from People First and vendors. Helps coordinate the annual Benefits and Wellness Fair, open enrollment help sessions, new faculty orientation and other special events as required. Provides assistance to the Retirement team as coverage and situation require. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in human resources or a related field or a high school diploma/equivalency and six years of the same experience. (

post high-school education and/or experience may substitute at a comparable rate.) Preferred Qualifications Experience providing subject matter expertise and counseling others. Experience prioritizing and organizing work assignments and utilizing problem solving skills. Experience working in a detailed oriented environment. Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations. Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices. Helpful What is a typical day in this position? No two days are the same. One day you may be assisting a newly hired employee with their benefits. The next you may be assisting a faculty member with separating from the university or assisting with payroll processing. Customer service is a large focus in this position, complimented by attention to detail and a can-do attitude. What can I expect in the first 60-90 days? Your first few weeks will be getting up to speed on all things FSUHR Benefits — our policies, procedures, and what is expected of you. You’ll also spend time shadowing other HR Specialists, so you have a good understanding how to manage and process cases. There’s on the job training, which is fast paced but thorough and detailed. Previous experience in employee insurance benefits is helpful, and we’ll spend time transferring those previous skills to this role.
