JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruiting Assist in developing a strategic recruitment process in collaboration with and direction from managers, including: Talent acquisition (e.g., developing partnerships to find possible candidates). Train hiring managers in recruitment best practices. Support managers in standardizing the interviewing process. Assist managers in candidate selection (e.g., initial screening). Hiring and Onboarding Facilitate new hire processes, including supporting supervisors in their new hire orientation, training program oversight, and participation in annual school year orientation. Work with supervisors to answer questions on topics relating to leaves of absence, compensation, HR-related policies, and procedures. Onboard all new personnel with Gusto and with benefits. Duties include, but are not limited to: Welcome email outlining process Gusto setup, including Letter of Appointment upload and distribution of notices as required by law. I-9 document tracking. Background record check document tracking (e.g., CORI, SORI, fingerprinting). E-Verify processing. Parking pass issuance. Enrollment in Life and Long-terrm Disability insurance. Enroll employees in optional benefits they select, including medical, dental, vision coverage, and 401(k) plan. Ensure managers perform periodic check-ins following initial hire (e.g., 30-day, 60-day, 90-day) and assist as needed. Payroll and Benefits Serve as backup for biweekly payroll processing and administering compensation and benefit plans. Manage PFML (paid family and medical leave) requests in collaboration with employees and insurance company. Manage annual health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance renewals with benefit consultants and update the benefit booklet. Manage all annual open enrollment processes. Process all personnel changes with appropriate payroll/benefit agencies (e.g., Gusto, health, dental, vision, 401(k), life & long-term disability). Evaluation Manage annual performance review process, track and maintain reviews, and educate managers in best practices. Retention Provide guidance and insight into employee retention practices and succession planning as needed by managers. Policy and Legal Assist in policy development and implementation; guide supervisors in understanding and explaining policies; help managers promote conflict-free workplaces; update handbook as needed. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and labor regulations. Maintain up-to-date postings of required labor laws. Maintain employee records in both electronic and paper form. Employee Relations Guide and train managers and staff when requested on conflict resolution, workplace concerns, and performance-related issues, including performance improvement plans. Other Assist with general business office work, including serving as the primary approver of bills on Bill.com. Collaborate with managers to determine relevant staff trainings (e.g., harassment prevention, DEI, cybersecurity, ALICE) and coordinate the implementation of selected trainings.
QUALIFICATIONS A
bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is preferred. 3+ years of HR generalist or specialist experience, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting. Knowledge of HR laws, benefits administration, and payroll systems (Gusto experience a plus). Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS platforms. This part-time hybrid position requires on-site presence on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Salary $35 – $45 per hour
