The HR Generalist is responsible for handling core HR and employee relations functions. This is a highly analytical role that requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while escalating complex or high-risk matters to HR leadership as appropriate. The HR Generalist supports organizational risk mitigation by ensuring proper leave administration (FMLA, ADA, personal leave), managing workers’ compensation claims, coordinating unemployment responses, documenting disciplinary actions, and conducting or supporting internal investigations. The HR Generalist serves as a primary resource and partner to leaders and staff, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and fairness across all related HR practices.
Job Responsibilities:
Coordinate and manage employee leaves including FMLA, ADA, personal, and other statutory or company-sponsored leaves. Maintain accurate tracking and documentation of leave status and communications. Provide guidance to employees and supervisors on leave eligibility, rights, and responsibilities. Monitor leave timelines, ensure timely return-to-work coordination, and communicate next steps. Serve as the point of contact for workplace injury reporting and workers’ compensation claims. Ensure timely completion and submission of required documents in coordination with third-party administrators. Track claims, review medical documentation, and coordinate modified duty or return-to-work plans. Maintain OSHA logs and support incident reporting compliance. Assist with policy enforcement and corrective action processes by preparing documentation and supporting consistent disciplinary practices. Advise managers on appropriate steps in addressing performance or conduct concerns. Maintain accurate records of coaching, disciplinary action, and policy violations in accordance with internal procedures. Conduct or support internal investigations related to employee complaints, policy violations, or workplace concerns. Interview employees, review documentation, and maintain thorough and confidential records. Prepare investigation summaries and collaborate with HR leadership on recommended actions. Respond to unemployment claims and documentation requests in a timely and accurate manner. Collect and submit supporting documentation for separations and disciplinary actions. Represent the organization in unemployment hearings, as needed. Provide responsive and proactive customer service to internal employees, external applicants, and stakeholders. Process employee status changes, including new hires, promotions, transfers, and terminations, with precision and confidentiality. Manage HR Communication platforms. Ensure personnel files and records are up to date and audit-ready. Support policy interpretation and process guidance for supervisors and employees. Participate in HR projects and initiatives to support organizational growth and partnerships. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Employee Relations or HR Leadership.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field is required. Three (3) or more years of HR experience required; with demonstrated experience managing employee relations and disciplinary processes. Strong working knowledge of employment laws including FMLA, ADA, and workers’ compensation regulations. Proficient experience with Microsoft Office Suite, data management and recordkeeping. Exceptional attention to detail, time management, critical and analytical thinking skills. Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion. Experience utilizing HRIS systems UltiPro HRIS system experience preferred. Must be willing to use personal vehicle for business travel when required. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) is preferred.
