POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources Leave Specialist is responsible for administering the leave of absence process for all Mecklenburg County and Library employees; Explains policy and procedures related to Administrative, FMLA, Extended Medical, Extended Family, Military and Worker’s Comp leaves of absence. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to document and track information; strong communication skills; the ability to work collaboratively with others; excellent customer service skills. Experience with Family Medical Leave (FMLA), and previous HR experience in a service environment preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The primary focus of this role will be the coordination and administration of leaves of absence to include continuous and intermittent family medical leave and other medical leave. Acts as a subject matter expert and resource to employees, leaders, and providers regarding leave of absence policy, FMLA, State and Federal regulation, and short-term disability, with a focus on customer service. Exercises judgment and works without close supervision Verifies that all paperwork submitted is complete and accurate before processing Reviews medical certifications, and provides instructions if incomplete/insufficient Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provide information for personnel actions Scans/files documents received and completes system entries Completes and sends required forms and communications Manages a high volume of leave requests in accordance with County’s leave and accommodations polices and processes. Maintains knowledge of all applicable laws (FMLA, USERRA, Federal and State Regulations. Must also understand and use discretion in applying laws, rules, regulations, and policies. Provides accurate information to employees and management regarding benefit programs as they relate to FMLA, USERRA, PFL, STD, LTD, Federal and State Law. Tracks leave of absence in our HR system of record (Peoplesoft). Validates employee’s eligibility to determine FMLA/Medical leave eligibility per current federal law as well as the Human Resource Policy & Procedures; follow up with management and employees with respect to available leave, leave status and updates, pay & benefits, work restrictions, and required forms. Process, verify, and maintain all personnel related documentation and employee changes, corrections, department transfers, and other HR related information in our HR system of record (Peoplesoft), with the utmost confidentiality. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Minimum of two years of Human Resources and/or customer service experience in office setting
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes Licenses and Certifications May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of Laws and regulations related to Leave of Absence (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, and WC).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of Principles and practices of Leave of Absence and ability to apply this knowledge in varied work situations. Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment. Skills Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to enter data, or process information.
