Position Objective:

The Human Resources Generalist manages the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment and hiring to training, compensation, and employee relations, ensuring the organization complies with labor laws and leads the effort to maintain a positive work environment. As the HR Generalist, you will play a pivotal role in fostering and sustaining a positive and inclusive organizational culture. It will involve designing and executing initiatives that enhance employee engagement, encourage collaboration, and ensure alignment with the organization’s core values.

Work Environment:

Currently, the work environment for the HR Generalist position is hybrid, but with a strong emphasis on in-office presence. The role requires working in the organization’s Harlem office, Monday-Thursday. Fridays offer the flexibility to work remotely unless in-office attendance is specifically required. This significant in-office requirement is considered an essential function of the role, which necessitates regular in-person collaboration with team members.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Talent Acquisition and Management:
Recruiting and Hiring:

Work with part-time Recruitment Manager in identifying job openings, attracting candidates, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions. Manage organization workforce.

Onboarding:

Integrating new hires into the organization, providing necessary resources, and ensuring a smooth transition.

Employee Relations:

Addressing employee concerns, resolving conflicts, and fostering a positive work environment.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary and Wage Administration:

Working with leadership in determining pay structures, managing salaries, and ensuring fair compensation.

Benefits Management:

Overseeing employee benefits programs, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks.

Budgeting:

Providing compensation and benefits information for the creation of the organization’s annual budget.

Training and Development:
Skill Development:

Identifying training needs, designing and delivering training programs, and evaluating their effectiveness.

Performance Management:

Assist in setting performance goals, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback to employees.

Compliance and Legal:
Labor Law:

Ensuring compliance with all relevant labor laws and regulations.

Policy Implementation:

Developing and implementing HR policies and procedures.

National Organization:

Maintain data and reports as required and requested by the National Organization to stay in compliance.

Administrative Tasks:
Payroll:

Managing payroll processing and ensuring accurate and timely payments.

Record Keeping:

Maintaining accurate employee records and data.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Excellent customer service skills and a positive, customer-oriented attitude demonstrated consistently with all contacts. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Accomplished with Google suite, ADP TotalSource (or other HRIS and payroll system) Asana (or similar project management tool), Zoom, Apple, or PC products. Must be able to operate standard office equipment. Demonstrated ability to draft/produce accurate correspondence and training materials. Demonstrated ability to edit written materials accurately and consistently, including own work. Strong organizational and time management skills. Able to plan, organize, and implement projects and to follow up as required. Must be detail-oriented and enjoy organizing others. Ability to present professional demeanor at all times. Excellent judgment, tact, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision, as well as to function successfully as a team player. Ability to effectively manage and prioritize several issues/tasks concurrently, meet deadlines, and communicate status effectively. Self-motivated and able to anticipate organizational needs.

Required Education, Experience, and Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years’ experience in Human Resources or Operations position(s), including experience with payroll and benefits. SHRM-CP or PHR designation preferred.

Benefits include an attractive compensation package, including a salary in the $75,000 to $87,500 per year range, commensurate with experience. Friends of the Children New York, through ADP TotalSource, offers a full range of benefits.
