PFM is seeking an experienced HR professional to lead the administration and strategic management of employee benefits, retirement, and leave programs across the firm. This role plays a key part in ensuring an exceptional benefits experience for all employees and partners, while also contributing to broader HR initiatives, employee engagement, and compliance efforts.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The HR Generalist II / Benefits Leader will serve as a core member of the Human Resources team, overseeing the day-to-day operations of PFM’s benefits, retirement, and leave programs. This includes managing compliance, system administration in Workday, and partnering with internal teams and external vendors to drive process improvements and deliver outstanding service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Benefits Strategy & Administration Recommend enhancements to benefit programs based on industry trends and benchmarking. Partner with brokers to evaluate competitive offerings and identify cost-effective solutions. Lead daily operations of benefit programs such as medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k), COBRA, and leave of absence programs. Coordinate and lead annual Open Enrollment including system setup, testing, communication, and troubleshooting. Manage all benefit transactions in Workday including enrollments, life events, terminations, and COBRA. Compliance & Reporting Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, etc.). Support audits, prepare required filings, and maintain up-to-date documentation. Reconcile benefit invoices and coordinate with Accounting and Finance to resolve discrepancies. Generate routine and ad hoc reports from Workday to support decision-making. Employee Support & Communication Serve as a key point of contact for employee inquiries, providing timely and accurate guidance on benefits policies, eligibility, and processes. Develop and maintain benefits materials for employees via presentations, guides, and the HR intranet. Vendor & Systems Management Manage relationships with third-party vendors, resolve escalated issues, and monitor performance to ensure service level expectations are met Partner with IT and vendors on integrations, data feeds, and system enhancements. Ensure accurate, timely benefit data management across Workday and external systems. Cross-Functional HR Contributions Participate in broader HR projects and initiatives that support employee engagement, process improvement, and team collaboration. Stay current on industry trends through professional development, networking, and research.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field or 5+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and HRIS applications. Strong knowledge of benefits regulations (ACA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, etc.). Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities. Proactive, self-motivated, and eager to leverage technology for process improvements. Collaborative and adaptable with a positive, solution-oriented mindset. Preferred Qualifications Two to five (2-5) years of direct experience in benefits administration. CEBS, SHRM-CP, or PHR certification. Experience with the Workday application.
COMPENSATION
PFM’s total rewards package includes a competitive base salary, bonus eligibility, and a comprehensive benefits package. PFM also offers participation in profit sharing and 401K plans. The anticipated base salary for this role is between $75,000 to $80,0000 per year; this position is eligible for annual performance-based bonuses. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
