Are you a detail-oriented professional with a passion for payroll and HR systems? In this important position, you’ll help ensure employees are paid accurately and on time, maintain our HRIS data integrity, and support key HR functions across the organization.
What You’ll Do
Payroll Responsibilities
Process and manage payroll for all SMC employees.
Accurately calculate taxes, deductions, benefits, and retirement contributions.
Maintain payroll records and respond to employee inquiries.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
Prepare reports for audits and internal use.
HRIS Responsibilities
Manage and maintain our Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to ensure accurate, up-to-date employee records.
Conduct regular data audits and troubleshoot system issues.
Coordinate system updates with IT and other departments.
Educate employees on HRIS features and self-service tools.
Generate reports on headcount, turnover, benefits, and performance data.
Reconcile benefits data with vendors and assist with system integrations.
HR Support
Support the HR Director with onboarding and employee lifecycle activities.
Maintain HR documentation, including policies, handbooks, and job descriptions.
Handle employment verifications and wage audits.
Provide administrative support and contribute to HR initiatives and projects.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field (required).
Some experience in HR, payroll, or administrative support is helpful—but not required.
A strong interest and enthusiasm for HR operations, payroll, and employee service. Willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative team environment.
Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
Strong communication skills and a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
Working Conditions
Primarily on-site at our SMC campus, with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week.
Frequent interaction with faculty, staff, students, and external vendors.
Light physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, and computer use.
